I remember seeing a documentary a few years back about Mastermind. They told a great story about a guy who had been accepted and had a very obscure specialist subject. The researchers got to work and spoke to someone who was considered very knowledgable on the subject. He suggested they speak to someone else, who was considered the world's best authority on the subject...who turned out to be the contestant himself!

If you have a subject where you're the world's expert you've got a good chance!
