England 1-1 USA

Milner shouldn't have started because he has missed loads of training through illness quite close to the match, that's why he shouldn't have played. If Capello wanted Milner to play for a reason then Joe Cole should have played in place of Lennon - and vice versa really. Lennon had about 3 decent crosses/passes all night which is not good enough for a specialist winger. Whichever way you look at it, Joe Cole should've started. He'd have got forward in support of the forwards and been an option for when Rooney was getting marked closely - why didn't we exploit this?

No I completely agree with you on the Joe Cole selection. He is one of my favourite players for England because he is so unpredictable. I don't however agree with dropping Lennon for him.
Milner is a good option against stronger opposition, say if Ashley Cole was marking Messi, or Ronaldo, but why was he needed to help out against Landon Donovan. That and the fact their right back was Spector who was never going to be an attacking threat. Oh and the fact Milner hasn't played on the wing for a year for Villa but as now adapted to a central midfield role, so technically, playing out of position.
I think the team just hummed of negativity and the ball wasn't moved wide quick enough, or infact ever moved around the pitch quick enough.
I think Gerrard showed he needs to be in the middle and not on the left, but the only way we can do that is by having him play off of Rooney with just 1 up front.

sorry, but i think Heskey has been well over-rated here.

The things he does well, i suppose he did well yes, but to be caught off-side 6 times in a game, when your strength isn't sitting on, or turning the last man is ridiculous. How many more attacks could we have had if he hadnt been caught off-side so many times? His positioning for someone who is meant to be experianced is very poor, and came across as very lazy.

Credit where it's due tho, great touch in for Gerro's goal, but no credit for his one-on-one miss, when i realised it was him, i knew he wouldnt score, as did all of you.

I thought we were ok, created some good good chances and didnt take them, lets be honest greens blunder aside we would have won, I have seen england start tournaments far worse than that and we have gone on in the competition, italia 90 was a shocking opener and mexico 86, we drew the first game in 66 too

Before my time mate...no doubt you were at both :)

Robert Green had 4,000 shots fired at him at training this morning and not one went in the net.

Green and Heskey then joined the rest of the squad for more training.
