Phil Brown talks to our YouTube channel

Southend United manager Phil Brown with a message for supporters...

There appears to have been a slight misunderstanding between myself and the Southend Echo in regards to my column in the paper today (Thursday).

I was quoted as saying that a transfer embargo surrounding the club has made it difficult to bring in faces for more competition throughout the squad.

I’d like to make it clear that the Chairman and board have been extremely supportive of myself, and that there is no transfer embargo in place.

In January, we were able to bring Bedsente Gomis, Luke O’Neill and Lee Barnard to the football club, who I am sure will all play a big part in helping us achieve what we want to this season – and that’s promotion.

We find ourselves in a very good position heading into the remaining games of the season. It’s going to be a big push, but every single player is working as hard as they possibly can to help us get into League 1.

I’d like to thank Southend fans for their continued support, and look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at Mansfield Town on Saturday as we look to pick up an important three points.

this doesn't quite all add up to me. Also this is not the first time Phil has mentioned the embargo and the club did not ask him to retract it before. None of us know how this works. To me we 'were' under an embargo and we are no longer, but that is a very very very recent change. The signings in Jan are a red herring I think- our actual squad size has not increased.

The club are trying to make this sound better than it really is , i.e we have been out of an embargo for weeks- look at the players we have signed'

I think PB is showing a great deal of loyalty by not admitting that we were under an embargo in the first place. Paints his achievements in a better light if we were and by sidestepping that question he is being a club man.

I really don't care to be honest - there seems to be a fascination with this matter on here, but I don't know why. From what I can see our embargo status doesn't seem to have affected our ability to trade or perform this season. It's as if coming out of an embargo would mean we enter the race for a different class of player - in other words complete bollocks. Having a compact squad has done us no harm.

No harm in bringing in a couple of players to strengthen weak areas, especially in the middle of defence. Brown pretty much admitted that it wasn't ideal playing Thompson or White out of position at times.

pleased Phil brown has put us in the picture regarding the Embargo .At least he has said that the echo has either got things wrong again or Phil brown dropped a clanger .Either way I dont hold either Brown or the echo to blame Because if the club did things right in the first place there would not have to be any reason for a miss leading story .

You're only saying this because we've been lucky(ish) and managed to steer relatively clear of any major injury crisis. If we hadn't then you'd be thinking all your birthdays and Christmas' have come at once to be out of the umbongo. It makes a huge difference as it now means we can get some much needed cover in and maybe take a punt on a good young loan player without having to operate a one in one out policy.

Agree with what you say about having a compact squad but we're only a few key injuries away from facing a mountain to climb if we want promotion. Having the ability to now be as active as we want in the transfer market is crucial.

I always wondered what those place names were that The Proclaimers were singing about. Still can't find Embargo on the map though so I'm as confused as ever basically.
