Any thoughts? Can't help but feel he was hiding from the game a little bit. It was a chance for him on Wednesday and he was too static and not close enough to the play to be on the receiving end from the midfield. Can't say I've seen him much in the flesh, but is there something to work with or is he dead-wood? He's around for another year, but if you could get rid would you?

Another poor signing by the esteemed boss. If he isn't good enough for promotion rivals (Swindon Town), and the same can be said for Timlin, why is he good enough for us?

I just dont see what a player with absolutely no aerial presence adds to the style of football that PS adopts. On the deck, he does look like he can play from what I've seen of him.

There has got to be more to him that what we have seen so far is all I can think. I dont think lumping the ball at him is really his game. For me if tyou want to get the best of Benyon and Freddy you need the ball on the deck. This hoof ball stuff we have seen is poor on the eye and dosent suit fast, skillful players.

Corr will excel with it a Benyon type wont. Clearly has pedigree to have done what he has done.Scored a few decent goals. Give him a pre-season to get fit and lets see.

I felt though that in the first half we were trying to play some football on the deck, and Benyon wasn't up for it. Maybe a change in style will help, if the style isn't changing then he seems pretty pointless, sadly.

Because Swindon were a much better team than us ?

Trying to, but failing dismally.

Neither he nor Freddy got the ball to their feet. It was either hit long by Prosser, or Timlin passed to a red shirt, or into the stand.

As others have said, cant criticise Benyon for the performance wednesday as we didnt pass it to him.

He isn't. Two League goals in over 14 months say it all. Shocking signing.

You have to be free for the pass to even be on, I felt he wasn't doing enough to get into space and receive the ball. There were several times where he was marked and he didn't either come short to receive a short ball, or spin the defender to offer a ball over the top.

the game was not played to his strenghts, needs the ball to feet, not to his head, and certainly not balls that are pinged 20 yards in front of him

Unless he made a run into the stand it wouldnt have mattered.

Neither he nor Freddy got in the game first half, that was the fault of the midfield being harried out of the game by Crewe and not being able to put a pass anywhere near them.

Weds tactics seemed to be to try and play the ball at the back, draw Crewe onto us then hit it long in a "counter attack". Only problem is every ball hit long when Crewe did push on was either wayward or in the air, for me when Clohessy is pumping the ball long from the half way line when he has 15 yards of space to run into tells me they were the tactics.

As has been said, he needs the ball to feet and could probably get 10-15 goals if he played a whole season. Surely is behind Freddy, Harris, Dicko & Corr in the pecking order though.

David Seaman was released by Peterborough. Sean Clohessey was released by Gillingham IIRC. Michael Kightly was released by us. Different players suit different styles, clubs and managers, and develop at different stages of their career.

Seaman was sold by Peterborough to Birmingham for £100k.

Benyon and Timlin have been poor signings from a club that when we signed them was not too many points ahead of us but deemed by their manager, who has had an extremely successful first year in management as surplus to his requirements.

Only ten starts, to be fair. Across three clubs and two divisions.

Benyon is a decent striker at this level. His record at Torquay shows that. He just needs a run of games. He was starting to look a player until we gave his spot to Eastwood. Not saying that we shouldn't have given his spot to Eastwood of course but it didn't help him.

Again I'm going to say the same thing, he's a small nippy player so he needs the ball at feet and not 4ft above his head, if he had it to feet and put through for him to run onto he'd be quality.

This is the same situation as Gary Hooper had when he was here!
