Election Day

Will you vote today?

  • Total voters
    27
  • Poll closed .
I always vote. For the first time I'm going to write that all the candidates are unfit to hold public office. Because they are.
Might be a waste of time but it makes me feel better.

But I do to find my polling station! Looked it up on Google and found it.

In Sheffield we have a referendum about having the council run by a Leader or a Mayor, can someone explain the difference (and who I should vote for?).

Same here re the mayor thing. Going to vote no on that one as I think it will lead to more costs in running the council.

2 things wrong with that for me

1) There is no politcal party I want, or prefer in power. Having to vote for one of them to justify my right to complain doesnt really make sense.

2) Voting round our way is pointless. Tory will win anyway.

The only things Ive had through my door are for Lib Dems and BNP. I vaguely recall something complaining about the Stadium which may have been lib dems, in which case they can go **** themselves. And the less said about the BNP the better.

Spot on mate!

I'm really disillusioned with politics .. they are all a bunch of self serving ******s doing what their leaders tell them

If labour say its a dog then the Tories will say its a cat, Labour say cat then Tories dog

What a load of sloblocks

I doubt i'll vote but if i do it'll be for the English Democrats

The other option is to spoil your paper. Shows you care but see no viable options to vote for. Not turning up simply looks like apathy which for councils with large majorities and extremist parties whose voters will turn out no matter what, is manna from heaven.

Personally I can't decide between drawing rude doodles on my paper or writing a short essay on why I'm not voting.

Any suggestions on good ways to spoil your paper?

I'd say that people blur he lines a little with regard to local elections. They'll vote on National issues rather than what affects them locally. Therefore you may get a good Tory/Labour/Liberal Council (delete as applicable) voted out of office because people ae disillusioned with a particular party at National level.

The Tories will get a kicking, but I think the Lib Dems will fare worse. And IMO Boris will buck the trend in London and hopefully we have seen the last of Red Ken.

I was going to say wipe your arse on it.

Write none of the above.

Yep, I think the Tories will lose out to UKIP and the far right (although the far right seems to be fracturing from BNP to BNP, ENP & NF so I don't expect many seats will be won by them) and LibDems losing to Labour & Greens.

The Mayoral thing seems like a more costly version of the same thing - whoever would be leader of the Council now will stand as Mayor and it being higher profile they surround themselves with costly advisors. It then becomes a personality contest. In London I expect Labour majority on the GLA and Johnson as Mayor because he says funny things on the telly and has amusing hair. Means we'll have a coalition government and a political system in our capital that struggles to work together too.

However disillusioned you feel just look at the amount of people throughout the world risking their lives to gain the right to vote. Like the man says, hold your nose and put your X, its an embarasement to our nation if you don't. If you can't vote for something vote against something but at least vote. Please.

I've voted Tory in every election, local or general, since coming of age, and if it were a general election today I'd do the same, but on this occasion I feel the Government needs a kick up the arse so will be protest voting UKIP. I think the Tories in particular need a reminder that come 2015, they need to offer something better than, 'it was all Labour's fault,' even though it was.

Wish I had a vote in Mayoral election, I'd love nothing more than feeling I played a part in the final seeing off of Cry Baby Ken.

No from me as there is no voting happening

there's a local election and 2 people standing, tory v labour. the tory candidate has put a leaflet through our door, and as the incumbent he actually has achieved a few things in Cranbrook. Pretty straightforward.

No one in their right mind would risk their lives to gain our political system. People risk their lives for democracy. What we have is a sham of demcracy and all voting does is legitimise that sham.

Apparently voter complacency is playing into Ayatollah Livingston's hands, with appallingly low turnouts being reported across West London.
