From Coventry Forum

Just read on the city website that Herman, Sammy, Freddie and Danny Ireland are being released.
Personally I am glad we are rid of Fat Fred and Ireland, we cant afford to keep players who are injured, plus Dunn has more promise than Ireland.

They really didn't like Freddy did they.

I think you will find this has been done in order for us to sign him on a short contract for the playoffs.

No it doesn't. It means he remains on loan at Southend until that expires, and that his contract with Coventry will not be renewed when it expires in a few weeks time. Coventry will of course be honouring his contract.

Clubs have always announced release lists within 2 weeks of the season's end - I'm not sure why this has caused so much confusion.

We don't have to sign him on a short-term contract for the Play-Offs. Freddy is still a Coventry City employee today, tomorrow and all the way through the Play-Offs. His contract will expire in June and all today's news is is them officially announcing that they won't be renewing it, which is what we've all known since they told him to find another Club last October.

EDIT - what Museshrimper said.

How interesting............I was chatting to him in the office at Roots Hall today at around 12.30pm, where he told me he had finished training. I did think it odd, as the players don't finish until normally 12.30pm (so a record shower). He was chatting away as nice as you like about the weekend, but then went off to "have a coffee" downstairs, like he was waiting for someone.

The Chairman's Merc was parked at the Club today too................................................maybe watch this space !!

Ron has traded in his Bentley....:stunned:

Can't see many teams queuing up for his signature...Possibly a small handful of League 1 teams. IF we go up, I can't see why he wouldn't want to stay, I'm not sure how much he was on at Coventry, but I'm guessing there won't be many clubs who could offer him as much, so unless he wants to be out of a job, he will have to take a pay cut.

I reckon he'll sign. I think someone commented that he missed being down here, near his family. It'll be a pay cut compared to what he had at Coventry but I don't think he's going to take another contract like that again as he clearly can't cut it at the Championship and will want to get there. What better way than to do it with us.

I know centiment should not cloud your judgement but there are not many players over the last twenty years who have got me standing up and applauding, but Fred is one of them. If we could sign him on relatively reasonable salary then why not! Get rid of a few other bench warmers, include a goals bonus in his contract and I reckon the boy will shine again...form is temporary, Class is permanenet!

I think with a proper injury free pre-season he could come in and do some serious damage next season for us playing alongside the good players we have in the attacking areas (Hall, Harris, Timlin, Bilel). He has shown flashes of brilliance so far in his second spell but when he is getting the ball now youre more hoping he scores rather than expecting as it was at his peak with us.

That's something that just can't be measured

far too much rests on which division we are in, fail to go up and eastwood along with hall, mohsni and maybe others will be a long way out of reach for us.
