Post-Match Thread and Ratings Eastleigh 1-2 Southend United

Nothing to add to @Yorkshire Blue 's excellent summing up of the game and I echo @yogi bear up the cagire 's comments about the effect on my ticker!

One other thought - I think we dodged a bullet with Paul MacCallum - he was so hopeless in the first half that his manager hooked him off at half time!

Fortunately MacCallum has never had a good game against us. In fact his work rate proves why he isn’t playing at a higher level.

Wouldnt mind if we could nick Shade

We got Miley from them, although he wasnt that effective today either

But Kevs f highly fond of Cav and Noor by his own admission

That point at Tamworth starting to look like a much better point than people gave credit for a few weeks ago.

Look at our last eight fixtures. Easily the ones you’d choose over any of our playoff rivals.

Gateshead have gone and so we’d have to hit relegation form not to take them but still need to outperform Altrincham Eastleigh and a flying Tamworth

Well, we've advanced our chances of a play off spot in the last 7 days not only by our own endeavours, but by the teams around us dropping points.

I purchased a weekly pass at the new increased fee of €14.99 (£12.57) and was rewarded in today's match let alone Tuesdays encounter. We started at pace right from the start and a great chance forced a corner after 23 seconds. Hopper (who had a great 1st half) reacted quickly and it was 1-0 in just over a minute gone. As half time approached we were so comfortable that 1-0 up at the break would have been some kind of injustice. As it turned out on the stroke of Half Time the game was put to bed by GSM (who else) stealing in to head in LCP's cross. My thoughts were that Eastleigh surely couldn't play as badly the second half as they had the first? I also thought that teh commentators came across as the most neutral away commentators that I remember ever hearing.

2nd half to be honest was a bit of a blur. We had an unexpected guest turn up and I was only half watching, missed Hayes' s wonder save, but saw the shot that hit the woodwork and Hopper's shot wide.

In the end this was a typical Southend performance and keeps us interested at least until Tuesday when we go again, if the nerves can stand it!

Shade looks a class player. Maybe a concern he’s a bit Nathan Ferguson in the way he goes about things ?

I thought the commentator actually went beyond neutral and was practically on our side! He absolutely loves Scott-Morriss!

Unlike some fans Maher knows he has a game on Tuesday.
I'm fully aware that Southend gave a game on Tuesday. So prior to making belittling remarks don't assume that I'm a part time Blues fan. Those substitutions were not made due to Tuesday's game. The Eastleigh manager had outsmarted Maher with his half time substitutions and tactics and Maher felt it was best to remove LCP & KAF and defend deep after it went to 2-1. It nearly cost us.

But did Maher not outsmart the opposition manager for the first half? Remember, Bonne and hopper both had 2 good chances each.

This is absolutely correct. Maher reverted to type with the old faithfuls on the pitch in the second half towards the end handing the initiative to Eastleigh. Any spark of creativity was withdrawn and we reverted to the sideways and backwards mode, which didn't even have the dubious merit of retaining possession as we kept giving the ball away and were lucky to get the 3 points in the end after a totally dominant first half which with creative players like Parillon, A-F and GSM seeing so much of the ball was a joy to watch.
