Was chaos in the East Blues tonight, all the Academy youngsters who are used to turning up and sitting anywhere were sitting in sold seats. Tickets didn't work on the way in, loads of people still trying to find their seats after kick off!

Not helped by the club's pathetic penny pinching approach trying to get away with just opening the main stand. It never works and they always finish up opening the South Stand. Being squashed to capacity in a ground one quarter full is ridiculous.

It is also sending a message to the supporters that this match isn't that important and unfortunately that seemed to filter through to players and management.

The section in the East Black right at the front closest to the South is almost exclusively comp seats with loads of the players WAGs and kids in there. A mate of mine had managed to get five comps from someone who knows one of the first team so that's where I was on Saturday. Robinson & McGlashan's families were just behind us, John White's were just to our right and there were a few other groups I couldn't identify but who were definitely related to some of the players.

Yes, that seems right. There seems to be a high turnover of people there which implies not many seaso's - apart from Waldorf and Statler!

Especially when we used to get crowds not much bigger than that every game and opened the entire ground.

I always stay away from games that dont open the West Stand as it feels like an old Reserve game. (Bodes well if the 3 sided new stadium goes up)

We used to get crowds half that size and still open the entire ground.........

Spot on Mick........and some of the people who do brave it and come don't return because of the problems it causes.

Poor atmosphere last night not helped by the performance. But I still think they should open the West Stand and East Stand for these games. A couple of hundred in W block would have improved the atmosphere.
Probably not for the Reading Checkatrade game but certainly want the West open for the Col U game even if the crowd is only going to be about 3,500.
This is a really good point imo. Brown has made a point several times of saying that the crowd had the ability to lift the players. I genuinely believe we can make a difference and the crowd is worth several points a season. When we aren't in our normal seats we make bugger all noise ( except booing nouble). If we opened the other stands it would increase our chances of Winn. Surely all we have to do is win one first round match every now and again and that would easily pay the extra costs

You make it sound oh so simple. Incidently, I wasn't in my normal West Stand seat, I didn't boo Nouble and I did cheer, groan and clap just like I normally do.................and it made bugger all difference to the way they played.

Trouble is opening any more of the West than at present (wheelchair users only) means opening catering facilities and having more stewards so there is always a cost implication.

The most ludicrous aspect is delaying the opening of a 2nd stand till the last minute.
I'm sure this put a lot of fans off. If both the East and West Stands had been available from the start, they would have been reasonably full.

No ....

The point is why when it's nearly out and everywhere is rammed are some lucky people having room to spread out with three seats each ....

I like my fellow man but on occasion having a nice spare seat for my coat, phone, coffee would be good and being able to relax without embarrassment if I had wind would be most pleasurable ,,...

There is a lot of injustice out there and empty east stand seats are part of a wider picture ,...

Perhaps something to bring up at the next Supporters' Group or Shrimpers Trust meeting, once you've got the hand gel sorted.
