Dublin

I'm also surprised no one mentioned Kilmainham Jail. Seems up your street. If your a culture vulture you'll love it. Mrs Pubey enjoyed it but I was quite hungover.

Thanks for the KJ tip.

Talking of culture, anyone know what the local football scene is like?

The Aviva stadium, (which our hotel is pretty near),won't be hosting a match while we're over.

Talking of walking - there's a good walk on the south side of the city along the canal. There's a statue of Patrick Kavanagh sat on a bench along there and Raglan Road is down in those parts too.

St Pats and UCD are both in the city, Shamrock is in Tallaght which is further out. No idea who is at home when you're over but check them out. UCD probably won't give a good impression - bit like going to watch Southend Manor.

As for Dublin, I lived there for nearly a year and found little to do except drink. The pubs are mainly excellent.

Cheers.Looks like the hotel we've finally opted for is bang on the canal.Raglan Road sounds good.

Try and find yourself a hurling or Galic football match. Incredibly fast paced and exciting. You won't be disappointed.

Watched enough on telly to know that (a) hurling in particular is ****ig insane and (b) going to see either sport at Croker is definitely on my sporting bucket list.

Could be worth a short train trip (via the DART if it's still called that) out to Bray on the coast if the Seagulls are playing. Quite a nice journey out there at the very least. And well, we know that seaside towns are generally worth a visit too.

And I've even got their fixtures up for you > http://www.braywanderers.ie/matches/

Cheers Chief:I'm sure Bray would have been fun but they're at home to Sligo on the day we fly in and away at Cork after that.Guess I'll have to stay local.

See Bohemians have a tasty looking game against Shamrock on Monday 18th August but it looks like they operate a fairly strict membership scheme.Anyone know if there's a way round that?
