Unfortunately, we have a justice system which was once the envy of the world not fit for purpose in this day and age.

Instead of embarrassing the bloke by plastering his name all over social media, with a possible job/family loss why are they not helping the man get off a nasty addiction and re build his life, instead of destroying it ffs?.

We have a system which bangs people up, with no real chance of getting a job on the outside due to criminal records etc so their only real opportunity is to go back to crime, which causes yet another tax payers expense we could all do without and a merry go round for everyone involved.

We know the authorities love to nick a working class football fan too, which is why our very own copper Baker was beating his drum, like he just single handily found the missing brink mat gold with his detective skills but we all know what a waste of money this arrest was.

Sorry don’t agree, why shoujd my hard earnt money go to someone who decided drugs is a way of life and probably caused many people discomfort when out of their head.
I’ve worked hard for a living and never been tempted despite many ups and downs
I have no sympathy for the pandering down to these people, their choice they sort them selves out.
Hate it when they make money from books like Howard’s Marks who become a hero to many , sorry not for me but if want to support good luck just not on my taxes I have had to pay throughout the years

A fella doing a line in the toilet is hardly Howard Marks league is it?.

I think you missed my point which was that hanging the fella out to dry could well be a costly exercise to you and I the tax payer, rather than send him to NA (costs zero and in many cases helps addicts kick the habit).

Addiction is a nasty ILLNESS, which only those with the habit of around the addict can fully understand and by stating that its "their choice, and they need to sort it" tells me that you are lucky enough not to be in that camp.

I have lost people close to me through drugs, and see how it the current system is an utter failure to both the addict and public which is why I feel strongly about how we handle these kind of situations.

Most crimes now are linked in one way or another to drugs, and this will only continue/get worse with the current status quo.

There is an interesting book on the whole "War on Drugs" called "Chasing the scream" which may pass the next few's weeks for some on here until mid August, as well as give more of an open mind on the whole subject.

 
I spent a fair chunk of my working life in Customs trying to stop the supply of Class A and Class B drugs flooding into our fair land. It was a thankless, impossible job then, and it's even more so now. The supply of drugs across the world is a major thriving business for just about every cartel and organised crime gang and they don't give a toss who gets screwed by their products. With that in mind, getting drugs in the UK has never been easier, so it's no surprise when matey strolls into RH with his little bag of stash in his pocket. Of course it's a life choice, but when you're at a certain age, it can seem like the route to take, believing that little bit of stuff won't hurt, oh yes it will, and harder stuff becomes easier to migrate to as well. I've still got mates that battle against the drugs trade, but it's a thankless task, and victories for the good guys are few and far between the massive volumes of drugs that traverse the world. Is there a parental role here somewhere?

And you miss my point, I do not want my money spent on them to maybe get a few clean
If you have have to take a line a football it’s more than just a social sniff occasion
I’m truly sorry you have lost friends but they had a choice and sadly it cost them and their families/ friends .

Whilst initially I and others had a choice (that much is true) however that was made with huge amounts of peer pressure and glorification.

Then for some you lose that choice and control and things take over.

I don’t know if you have ever been in that situation mate but I can assure you as I’m sure @Bazza the dog can from what he has said about his friends that the situation is not black and white.

I find some of these posts extremely hard to read.
I’ve been addicted to certain things in the past, and that includes opioids that was prescribed by the doctor when I was in so much pain with a disintegrated hip (no thanks to arthritis).

So it doesn’t even have to be the usual street drugs. Although I’ve also had problems with them!

I guess until it happens to you or a close family member or friend, you will always have those with ignorant views.

Very sad. Their life’s must be so perfect.

Right with you mate, opioids were a problem for me as well (not now thankfully) so much so I run a support group for codeine abuse (covering other opiates as well) it’s a private Facebook group if you ever need help or anyone else you know!
