Post-Match Thread and Ratings Dover Athletic 0-1 Southend United

Well done to all the team today, both players and management and of course the travelling Shrimpers. Not the best performance by all accounts but at least we bring back three points and another important step to safety - how different everything is looking compared to a few weeks ago.

Can’t do ratings- would be 5.5 for everyone - no one had a great game or particularly stood out. So a couple of observations.

Powell is rapid- he is always looking to be on the last shoulder- he wants it delivered quickly and to chase. We mostly failed on this obvious requirement.

Husin will chip in with goals because he takes up good positions on the edge of the box on set pieces- he probably had half our shots on target.

BTW referee should have booked himself for time wasting. I would also point out he was utterly useless but kinder to say he was average NL fare.

Just got back absolute pain getting out of the Rugby carpark not the best of games and probably Dover could have got a point if the effort hadn't hit the post.Anyway 3 points in bag and onwards to Barnet on Tuesday

Decent journey down and clear roads. Got a space right by the ground.

Bit of stampede to get in but the stewards at Dover were all good natured.

The queue for the bogs and food were very slow but got the standard burger.

The game was played on a terrible pitch which bobbled throughout and did not lend itself to good football.

It wasnt a good game and Dover can feel agrieved to not have got a point. They battled well throughout and had their tricky forward been able to shoot would have got a point.

Great away support in numbers but not that loud today, possibly due to the quality on show and lack of chances etc.

All in all. Another new stadium and 3 points. Home by 7pm.

Bring on Barnet and let's get ourselves another 3 points which will undoubtedly see us safe and comfortably mid table.

Nobody covered themselves in glory but the new lad looked lively but very small in stature.

Any ratings today? How did Cardwell do?
I thought that he did well in his target man role and he battled on gamely after the clash of heads. Perhaps he was subbed at half-time as a precautionary measure.

I don't usually do ratings but here we go: -

Arnold - 6
Hobson - 6
Lopata - 7
Ralph - 6
Demi - 7
Atkinson - 6
Husin - 8
Clifford - 6
Dalby - 6
Cardwell - 6.5
Dennis - 6

Subs. Powell - 6, Ferguson 6.
