Doncaster Planning Southend Downfall

Yes, crap and even slightly amusing.

- G

Oh look heres another pointless comment from Doncaster's manager......

"They will be two difficult games before we get to the final at what is a fantastic place to play your football."

I love an opposition who are slightly over confident!!!

Bring it on!!!!

Dont see why these comments are causing so many issues.

Doncaster who just missed out on auto promotion are looking to beat us, a team they took apart at home already this season whilst acknowledging they will have 2 difficult games to get there.

I hope we are going into the game with the same attitude.

I don't see them as issues at all, its just interesting to see how the mind games are going, and to me its just a bit of fun.

Thats it all these things are a double edged sword. If he didn't do these statements then Donny fans would be moaning, if you do you risk upsetting the oppostion. You expect to hear them, the key is not being disrespectful if not as someone pointed out earlier you do the team talk for the other manager. With Donny i expect they are being encouraged to talk to the press to get the fans excited again after missign out on second.

Indeed.

That statement is just normal talk, its not like they are saying "Wow, we have got an easy semi - final, we can field our under 11's and still destroy them".

They have just missed out and need to here some encouraging and positive statements which is all that is.

I think SOD has had to make amends after being negative going into the Cheltenham game, so he's gone the other way, the fool! I can honestly say most Rovers fans aren't expecting Rovers to get to the final, most said the best chance for promtion was last Saturday, so despite the hype most Rovers fans aren't being over confident.

Really? I thought we beat Bristol City in front of our own fans, and were crowned champions. I think this guy has his seasons mixed up.

He doesn't have his seasons mixed up but he is slightly confused. If we'd beaten Donny that season we'd have gone up automatically at Roots Hall but we lost so needed the draw at Swansea.

I remember that game, we actually played very well that day. Only 2 years back aswell. It's amazing to think how both teams and clubs have changed since then.

You did play well (wasn't it Thornton who pulled the strongs in midfield that day for you?), but we were choking big time at that point. You scored a rubbish goal early in the second half and we never looked like getting back into it.

You're correct that he doesn't have his seasons mixed up, but he actually said this:-

Prior to that they had won on their previous three visits and proved to be party-poopers in 2005-06 by beating the Shrimpers 1-0 in their final home game of the season and denying them the chance to clinch the League One title in front of their own fans.

Which is simply wrong. We clinched the title in front of our own fans against Bristol City. All they did was delay it a bit, which was fine by me because it meant that we denied Col Ewe on the last day of the season!

Yes we won the midfield that day Thornton and the youngster Griffith (hasn't played since that game I don't think and we've just sold him) were awesome in midfield. I seem to remember it was boiling hot aswell.

Be a very different game to that this week I feel.

Yep and that cheating ##nt Sean Thornton was falling all over the place!:flamer:

Also the Goat managed to stop a Freddy shot going into the net in the first half.

The Donny of that afternoon played with ten men in defence and we could not break them down!

If they play like that this time then it will be a very frustrating game for us:darkcloud:

Just had a look at the team and wow what a change.

Alan Blayney; Simon Marples, Steve Roberts, Graeme Lee, Sean McDaid; Jermaine McSporran, Anthony Griffith, Sean Thornton, James Coppinger; Leo Fortune-West, Lewis Guy.

Only Roberts, Lee, Guy and Coppinger left. Of them Lee has 1 sub appearance, Roberts is injured and Guy's not been in the team recently either. What a difference 2 years make.

We'll play 4-3-3 Friday, no doubt there and we'll attack, that's how we play.

Well that has truly worried me ........Zzzzzzzzzz maybe you might be defending.

According to Soccerbase we were:

Darryl Flahavan, Duncan Jupp, Lewis Hunt, Adam Barrett, Che Wilson, Lee Bradbury, Luke Guttridge (Mark Bentley 82), Kevin Maher, Mark Gower (Mitchell Cole 73), Shaun Goater (Wayne Gray 72), Freddy Eastwood
Subs not used: Carl Pettefer, James Lawson.

So all change here too. Only Flavs, Barrett & Gower remain and looking at the rest of the side I'm not sure how many of those players would get in our team today. Freddy Eastwood, obviously. Even Goater would lose out to Lee Barnard.

To be fair Hunt, Maher & Wilson are still at the club, although it seems that all 3 may be on their way in the summer.

EDIT : Post 7000, must do some work sometime.
