Donaster reveal that they

Director⭐🦐
are interested in signing James Hayter. He's a name that has been mentioned on this board and i hope he is a 'tilly target'. I think this is an odd tactic by Doncaster and i question how wise this announcement is. I ask this though, if we were to put our hands in our pockets and bid for Hayter, a) would we want him here and b) would he choose us over doncaster?

Yep, would be a useful addition and would complement Freddy well next season I feel.

A Hayter/Eastwood partnership would be on paper one of the strongest forward lines in League One.

Its just odd timing from doncaster, its an official announcement and often these things are filtered through the media, just seems odd how they have done this? Have they come into money lately? would he want to come here though smiffy? I agree, that forward line would be the envy of most L1 teams.

Why wouldnt he want to come here?

We should be more financially sound than most in League One, be amongst the favourites for a top 6 finish and I'm sure the thought of partnering Freddy is a mouthwatering one for him personally.

Plus we have been linked to him many a time.

If we dont go in for him I'll be shocked and a little disappointed.

Says on the Donny website that the Bournemouth board have accepted their offer and it is now down to Hayter agreeing personal terms.

Make sure we get in there quick then, i'll have a ring round and see what people know when i get a spare moment.

I hope we can get in on this. Whilst I don't see an Eastwood/Hayter partnership really working, Freddy hasn't really forged a decent partnership with anyone other than The Goat anyway so it's worth a try.

Plus if (when?) Fred leaves, Hayter would be a good replacement.

I was under the impression that Donny couldnt actually sign him officially until the transfer window opens though. They can only sign him now if he was released by Bournemouth or was out of contract. I guess we could gazump the deal then ? If we really wanted to ? Wouldnt make us very popular though.

Isn't the Donny boss, Sean O'Driscoll, the ex-boss of Bournemouth?

I seem to recall he left Bournemouth as they weren't big enough and saw Doncaster as an upwards career move. I thought it was strange at the time, but no doubt that personal relationship will be enough to clinch the move.

Indeed Yorkie, that will clinch the move.

Shame.

I don't know. Even if moving to play for his ex-manager is an attraction, upping sticks and moving to Doncaster can't be. When we were briefly rumoured to be looking at Hayter a couple of years ago it was mentioned several times that he was reluctant to move from the Bournemouth area. Well Doncaster is a hell of a move wheras he could potentially commute to Essex every day.

Think of all the trouble we've had signing Northern players. Luke Beckett turned down more money to sign for Oldham ahead of us.

Thats correct YB. we need to get in on the act and give him the choice, players in the main are ambitious and personal relationships don't come into much in football anymore. I can't speak for him personally but his agent, not sure who, will tell him to make the right career move. He's 28 now so at his peak, its where he feels he can achieve more and i think if we could say you'll be playing alongside Freddy Eastwood that would clinch the deal more than the personal relationship and he would come here. close to his home too. Remember he was born on the Isle of Wight and resides in Bournemouth and doncaster is a long way from there.

Whilst on the theme of Bournemouth players (or ex-players in my case), what about Steve Fletcher?

Is a PBB upfront and an absolute unit. Decent in the air and solid on the deck. In my opinion, better that Harrold, and could provide a decent foil for Freddy. Knows the division inside out, and could fill the role The Goat left.

Opinions....

Fletcher should be a target for Southend Rugby Club more than SUFC.

I think he's a better player than people give him credit for but he's another Lee Bradbury who offers nothing as a goal threat.

I just thought, if Doncaster get this transfer wrapped up tonight then it will really show the folly of us always leaving things til the last moment. They'll have snapped up a quality player for this level and left everyone else in the starting blocks or even still warming up.
