Do we need to sign another goalkeeper?

Do we need to sign another goalkeeper?

Hell no, not unless we are planning to offload Collin or Nick. We have Anssi as an emergency third option. Easy to get one in on loan if injuries occur.

Why would a 3rd experienced keeper who is most likely to be number one benefit from taking away game and development time from the two younger keepers?

They improve from playing games and getting experience.

For me Collin is number one by a large margin, but can be injury and the odd error prone, but if Hayes is playing I also don’t have much of an issue.

We are SO lucky to have two good goalkeepers at the club.

Hayes will push Collin. Hayes done well for us, we are National League! We have been blessed with some amazing shot stoppers. Someone already has mentioned some horror shows and the thing is you can still count them on one hand.

Sure Hayes has a few things that he needs to improve if he is to progress up the leagues. Is he at his level, not yet imo. He could be better.

Collin is something different and unique. If Kensdale hadn't given him that dreadful back pass then he would be in a much higher league now- I'm certain of that.

Fact is, he has been out for a long, long time. We know how good he is, but how good could he actually be. Collin could go up the leagues but he now needs to establish himself. One thing is for certain, two hungry gks that want to develop and progress.

Anyone saying we need a Goalkeeper needs to think about 1, budget, 2 potential, 3 what do you actually want a new gk to look like and how would they rank against Collin and Hayes?

We all see the game a little differently, my view is that, I very much doubt another club at this level will have two keepers as good as Hayes & Andeng-Ndi in their squad next season

A good young keeper from a Premier League club will be better than them. The lad Braintree had on loan from Ipswich was a real prospect.

Maybe but the loanees we had from Championship Stoke (Blondy) and L1 Lincoln (Jeacock) certainly weren’t!

Hayes himself came from Championship Ipswich.

Hayes was in the Ipswich academy, played for England U17s, left for Norwich, then Salford City in 2020, then Hemel Hempstead, then back to Ipswich in 2022, out on loan to us, and Solihull, then to Barnet and back to us. Sometime he was on loan at Woking. Doesn’t seem to stay anywhere very long….

Most important position on the pitch and to me Collin is adequate but far better out there.
Hayes is about Great Wakering standard and imo cost us promotion on the day with his bottle job star jump antics and lack of conviction. If we don’t improve on these two then we have no hope of going up!

Imo If you stick colin behind a very good defence he can do the job.

Sadly, because he comes across as likeable, wanted to be here and has a bit of a rapport with the fans i dont feel any confidence with Hayes in goal at all.

So id say as a team aspiring to be the best imo we need a better no.1 with Colin pushing.

I saw the name Mel Capleton mentioned.
I was at the Grays/Fisher game many years later and Mel made an awful mistake playing for the home side.

BTW, I'm somewhat unimpressed with way this thread has been spawned from the transfer thread, using my name and avatar with the title of "Do we need to sign another goalkeeper?"

It gives the impression that i started the thread because I think we do, which couldn't be farther from the truth.

Please can a mod either take me off it or change the thread title.

I moved the threads about goalkeepers from the Spasov thread because they were off topic. Yours was the first one I moved because it seemed to be the genesis of the off topic discussion, you can delete your own posts if you like. I realise now you were responding to someone else so I’ve moved that one too so now it looks like they started it!
