In that case, surely Tottenham, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and Man Utd fans should irratate you more. West Ham as a football club is probably the easiest to get to from Southend (Aside from us of course).

Everyone is entitled to there opinions and who they feel a dislike towards but what pains is me how some of our fans 'hate' West Ham more than Colchester or Orient. Hatreed and rivalry is better as a two way thing, does anyone think for one minute that West Ham as a club and West Ham fans see us as the slightest threat or as a rival??

If anything, I think we should be tapping into West Ham youngsters more, embracing the friendlies (Vital gate receipts) and maybe building a relationship to use them more than they need us!!!

Not really because there are less of them...

I agree though, West Ham arent a rival of ours so I am indifferent over them. Id rather Orient or Col U get relegated than West Ham any day. All three would be nice too:smile:

Would be nice - always Colchester for me although those two Orient matches last season were amazing atmospheres. Almost a throw back to years gone by.

West Ham fans I can swallow (to a certain extent), it's this new wave of Chelsea fans I struggle with. When I was growing up, I knew a handful of Chelsea fans, it was all Tottenham, West Ham, Man Utd and Arsenal. Now, all the southern youngsters tend to opt for the new Chelsea.

One thing i do hate more than Wet Spam fans, is people coming to Roots Hall in different clubs (Chelsea,Liverpool,Arsenal) shirts/jackets etc sitting in the home end! Surely they have other clothes they can wear for the day (or go to club shop and buy some of our stuff) I'm sure i aint the only one this bothers

What pains me is how people can be oblivious to the threat that W*** H** are on a club like Southend. Yes, I dislike Man, Chelsea, Liverpool etc as well for the same reason but as widespread as they are, they weren't as widespread to the extent that they need to open up a club shop in Southend High Street.

You can't choose your rivals, much like you can't chose your football team.

W*** H**'s existence threatens our own existence in a way Col Ewe or Orient just doesn't. Any argument that it needs to be a two-way street is undermined by the fact that we aren't either of Col Ewe's fan or Orient's fans' main rivals either.

Rivalry is growing up in Southend in a school where 7 out of 120 boys in my year supported Southend, when W*** H** fans constantly belittle the local team. Rivalry is every time you walk down the High Street you need to puke because some fat ******* is bulging out of his revolting walking billboard for being XL/Pony/Unemployed.

How much more vital gate receipts we would raise if the geographically impoverished failed gloryhunters attended all our games rather than an once a year friendly? How many more decent young players would we produce if kids in Southend grew up wanting to play for Southend instead of W*** H**?

The battle for the future of Southend United isn't taking place on the pitch, it's taking part off the pitch. The battle is for the hearts and minds and with it the future wallets of school kids. The enemy is W*** H**.

Don't particularly hate West Ham as a club but can't stand the fans. Just a bit of a nasty bunch and always pains me to see them getting on the London bound train at all stations from Southend to Billericay. As has been said previously, the lure of the Premiership does seem to draw a lot of fans away from supporting their local side. If they were to be relegated back to the Championship I certainly wouldn't lose too much sleep over it and I'm sure our gate receipts wouldn't either :whistling:

Hmmm. Well, I often used to go to West Ham in the mid-seventies as we played on Fridays. I could afford both on my paper round money, which illustrates just how much things have changed. I remember us playing them in the league cup and it went to two replays. Them were the days.

Anyway, I grew to despise their ugly, thick, racist fans. I know many who aren't, but there are enough to make the place smelly. Theres was the only ground where I saw the National Front touting outside. That was a long time ago, though, and they're not all ugly. Those running the club are enough for me to dislike them more than usual nowadays.

I don't accept the 'taking fans away from us' argument. It's okay to want to watch good quality football just as it's okay for us to be depressive masochists. What about Bury, Rochdale, Stockport etc? Do you really think that people would flock there if Man Utd weren't around? Ultimately, I don't like West Ham fans and I'll laugh when they're rattling around in the running stadium. Having said that, I gave up my season ticket this year partly because of the embarrassment of sitting near many of the numpties that we seem to have collected over the years. Swings and roundabouts.

I thought we were talking about W*** H**?

And yes, I do think Bury, Rochdale and Stockport would all get bigger gates if Man U weren't around. Not massive, but bigger.

Well, they didn't always have Allardyce. They used to have deft, skilful magicians like, erm, Billy Bonds...I'll get me coat.

Oh, and if I lived in Manchester I'd make a point of going to one of the above. I like lower league football. It's a different experience. It's also a bit crap, though.

My mate here in Melbourne is a spammer, i tell him about all the things said here and how Southend supporters hate WET spam .He laughs , yes and he has spouted off to me about them being the only club team to have won the World Cup.Me i neither love them or hate them , i tolerate them! But oneday wouldnt it be nice to have the rolls reversed SUFC in a higher division than them.Oh! to dream the dream!

Well, interesting, so far it's about level between the haters and non-haters. For comparison purposes I may try it with a few other local rivals... I feel another poll or two coming on...

Southend should try tapping into West Ham more for sure. A friendly is one thing but there is a youth system at Upton Park whereby West Ham youth could act as a feeder for Southend to benefit both sides.
