Blue tinted optimist⭐🦐
Just thought I'd put this out there following a Newport fans assumption that most SUFC fans also supported West Ham. There is a natural East London overflow to the Basildon/Southend area which means , I guess, than many "older" fans that have migrated down will be West Ham fans first and foremost but SUFC fans as well. However, I also guess that most people raised in the Southend area and who support Southend maybe do hate West Ham. So, in the spirit of interest, I have not made this public so you can anonymously put your true feelings down.

Not particularly.

Get fed up of the "West Ham fans" in the area ingoring their local club, but thats only because there are a lot of them. There are plenty of Arsenal/Man Utd/Chelsea/Spurs fans who do the same.

Don't hate them at all - some of my best mates are Spammers. However in my past I knew many knuckles dragging morons who used to boast about the fighting and they're alleged membership of the ICF - odd how they came to work without any scars on monday morning.....:whistling:

LOL good poll. No option I wish to choose.

It's actually quicker to get to Upton Park from Basildon than it is Roots Hall. That was however not my choice for choosing between the two. I think the fact my family including extended family supported West Ham and the fact they were in the Premier League and the fact my family were prepared to pay for me to watch Premiership football led to me growing up supporting the Hammers.

As i grew older and learned more about the history of SUFC and grew more links with the Southend area such as senior school and college I decided that I wanted to support a local team. I chose to follow Southend home and away as my second team that I had a real passion for because of my links to the area and grew to love the hard working nature of the football on show, the regular access to news (Echo) about the club which was important in the days prior to the internet being so widely used.

I would say that I was born into West Ham but chose to support and follow Southend. I know that many don't accept that and say that it is one or the other but that's the way it is and I have my own opinions right back at those who would seemingly rather not have me pay money to support Southend. Shame on you in my opinion.

Colchester, Orient, Dagenham, Canvey Island, Gillingham, Brighton, Tottenham, Leeds - I have much more hatred for all of these teams.

The poll needs a "I hate them a bit" option - it jumps from indiferent to hating them with a passion, and I think most Southend fans dislike them but have others that they hate more (Col Ewe etc.)

I'm indifferent to West Ham. I have seen a fair few people on here state the West Ham shop in Southend as a reason to dislike them, but as I am 25 I am too young to remember it. I think it's a shame that so many people born in Southend choose West Ham as their team, but as Jam Man states, the same thing occurs with other prem teams.

I must admit though, when I hear West Ham fans talking about them winning the World Cup, I do feel a little rage build up inside! Can't help but cringe at their supporters like that, but just can't bring myself to hate them even if there are a couple of reasons to justify doing so.

Perhaps iv'e got you mixed up with Gillingham then? looking at that poll, but then again I might be wrong there as well:stunned:

The club shop wasn't the reason we hate W*** H**, merely a symptom.

W*** H** are Southend's true rivals because you never see Col Ewe shirts in Southend.

Unfortunately the streets and schools of Southend are* infested with that claret and blue monstrosity and the accompanying ill-informed (and often racist) comments that inevitably emanate from them.

*or at least were; the situation has thankfully improved

That's why Brettie Angell slamming home after Collymore had done Steve Potts down the left, is one of the most glorious and satisfying moments in Southend history.

Those gobby ***** had to gloriously shut up as we proved ourselves to be the ONE TEAM IN ESSEX.

I reluctantly voted for the fourth option. It doesn't however go far enough to reflect the full depth of feeling on this issue.

Anyone mistakenly wavering, need only remind themselves how unbearable it is when we play W*** H** in a friendly and these deluded fools bursting out of their claret and blue shirts who somehow think a place 30 miles away is their closest team. Just how many times you can put up with being told about "the academy of football" that has produced Sam Allardyce's long ball wonders and how they won the world cup.

I have just four words for these utter *****

Brett Angell ONE NIL

Agree with YB. The friendlies are a nightmare every time because you end up being surrounded by West Ham fans in a seat you have been sat in for years and know most of people around you. As it's a friendly not everyone goes and to then have some gobby cockney wannabe in a west ham shirt take a shrimpers seat makes me sick. They don't hide the fact they are west ham and the club never do anything about it.

The World Cup thing gets on my tits. Every time we get knocked out there they are "that's what happens when you don't have west ham players in the team". I always hated Harry Redknapp and my hatred began with the club and when he was there. Their antics off pitch as portrayed by that **** Danny Dyer just add to it.

Russell Brand and Ray Winestone are two other reasons to hate west ham. I love it when they do **** and get beaten, relegated etc.

Although unlike a lot on here I don't have that much hatred for Orient, although since JS has been on here spouting off **** about how well they are doing is pushing my hatred up.

I should have guessed Danny Dyer was a W*** H** fan. The fact that he's a complete knob-end should have been enough of a clue.

I bet he's another hamster who likes to go on about how Ron and Reggie Kray loved their grans and were just misunderstood.

What I will give W*** H** credit for is getting some of the most appropriate shirt sponsors: having XL and some unemployed thing plastered across their shirts suggests a certain level of self-consciousness.

I haven't even got started on their owners.

Yes, but you see mentioning him here is just going to make him bang on even more when he drops by...............and Orient are going extremely well at the moment unfortunately!!

I must admit I don't think I am quite to the "I hope they go under" stage with them, but I do dislike them very much!

Pitching a WH club shop on Southend high street is unforgivable.
And as has been implied their owners poached managers from both us and Crystal Palace when they were at Birmingham.
And on a practical level when we are both in the same division the Essex types that go to WH to see higher league football will have no reason so their relegation will be welcomed (when we have risen enough to benefit)

Agree about that awful WH club shop on the High Street but now that it's gone I can't say I'm too fussed.Live and let live.

There have always been SU fans who've taken advantage of the proximity of London to follow other clubs,as I do with Fulham.

What's the problem? I know where my loyalties lie.

Hate West Ham well and truly; irrational, but true. Although, Big Sam managing them makes this hatred seem far more rational.

Indeed and that will always happen.

What annoys me is when people from the area completely ignore the local team .

In that case, surely Tottenham, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and Man Utd fans should irratate you more. West Ham as a football club is probably the easiest to get to from Southend (Aside from us of course).

Everyone is entitled to there opinions and who they feel a dislike towards but what pains is me how some of our fans 'hate' West Ham more than Colchester or Orient. Hatreed and rivalry is better as a two way thing, does anyone think for one minute that West Ham as a club and West Ham fans see us as the slightest threat or as a rival??

If anything, I think we should be tapping into West Ham youngsters more, embracing the friendlies (Vital gate receipts) and maybe building a relationship to use them more than they need us!!!
