Derren Brown - Roulette

CyrilSneer

Winger
Just watched this. As I used to be a croupier, I was adamant that he wouldn't be able to do this, as along as there wasn't any trickery involved. I've spun that wheel so many times, and seen people lose so much money, that I really didnt think it could be done

The fact that he didn't manage to pull it off, gives him a bit more respect in my eyes, as it shows that maybe some of the other events that he has pulled off were in fact genuine. The rest of the show he pulled off some amazing feats, as his usually does, and gave us an insight to how he was going to manage it. Which is why I cant understand why he didn't do a £1000 neighbour bet. This is a bet which covers the main number you choose and the two numbers directly to the left and right. You have to feel sorry for the man who could have won £175,000 though.

Worst bit of the show?

The assistant waiting in the wings with a Big Cardboard Cheque for £175,00 for the bloke should Derren have won, standing at the side not knowing quite what to do with himself.

Went for the biggy and ****ed up. Yes he was damn, damn close and as you say, goes to prove that maybe he's not full of ********.

Or was he and it was all a con? You never know with Derren Brown.

I agree. I thought that tonights act actually gives him more credibility. I would even go as far as saying he could've purposely marginally got it wrong just to prove his credibility.

I have a feeling it was all staged and there was never was a real casino. The ball was weighted or guided somehow to land damn close to the chosen number. Ben got his money back because it was never gambled, and this gave Derren a look of credibility in his other stunts - the lottery one, the stuck to your seat etc.

He's got what he wanted because everyone will be talking about it.

I'm not so sure... When they cut from the live feed back to the Trucks, you could tell that the plan they had in place had gone to **** and noone seemed to have an idea what to do. The guy with the cheque stood there gesturing to the mic'd up producer as to what to do.

Roulette is a predictable game - if you study the table enough.

I can recommend 'The Newtonian Casino' as a thoroughly entertaining read if you are in to science/computer science.

Or is that not just exactly what they wanted you to think?

I just realised, that when he went into the casino, he asked for ten x 500 value chips = 5000. Yet, he was supposed to be somewhere in Europe. So it couldn't have been £5000 pounds could it. Maybe 5000 euros, which would have been around £4300.

Unless somewhere in Europe was Britain!

It was entertaining and DB always claims to be entertainer first and foremost.

I'm just not sure it is the end of this stunt...

To be honest, i have a feeling it was probably somewhere like Austria or Germany. With the way the £ & € is at the moment, its probably not far off £5000, but as it was in €'s then it wasn't bang on.

I think he's a clever guy and i dont think he would have got it wrong on purpose!!

today the money exchange at ebbsfleet station was selling at just below 0.96 euro for £1 :O

That bloke that he has just called on the show tonight...........his flat mate my arse!!!

Unfortunate shot of some damp pits going on!

Haha I thought that too! Find it very difficult to buy into the physics thing.
Obviously can't explain how he pulled it of..... getting just one number away at the casino and also the squash court thing. But If i was really sceptical, I would suggest that the whole casino was set up.

The fact that he was one away was to make it even more plausible, showing that he does get it wrong sometimes, proving couldn’t possibly be a con!!!! Bit like a pool shark throwing a few games before taking your money.
