Just back, and do i feel depressed! The game was won by thier manager who didnt appear to be afraid to make tactical substitutions when things were'nt going right! The introduction of the giant striker was a stroke of genius that turned the game on its head and led to instant panic in the southend defence. We are defenceless against tall players. No matter what wiggy or other supporters of flavs say, he is pathetic against any sort of arial threat and its about time southend started to groom a replacement. To leave on 2 short centre halves when richards is warming the bench was a travesty. Even after they scored the first equaliser he still left it as it was? After our 2nd goal, with 5 mins to go, why not take off one of the strikers and bring on richards? Gower was a crock of **** but not subbed till after thier 3rd goal (and we all know how he defends). Tilson appears to be tactically inept and adverse to changing a side that so clearly is lacking. Our 'strike' force is toothless and if it wasnt for the tireless effort of bailey and mac we would be struggling to score many goals. In my opinion, Flavs, gower, harrold have to be replaced before its too late. If the opposition has average sized players then barrett & clarke is ok but if they are tall and mobile we must bring richards in.

Just got back, have to agree. Nothing has changed. We were cruising 1-0, they bring on Bas Savage, a tall striker and he immediately nods the ball down for them to score 1-1. We raise our game again and get another
2-1. Then two headers, our defence is all over the place and we lose
3-2.

In the meantime, everyone could see Gower was struggling in the second half and Black had been warming up with Richards on the line. We waited, we waited, we waited, surely he's going to bring Black on. Brighton were nothing and the best form of defence is attack. We still waited, nothing! until it was too late then Black comes on for Gower. In the last couple of minutes Eric comes on, too late to do anything.

Same old story, defence can't keep the ball out and we have a powder puff attack. Both goals scored by the midfield. Oh, and substitutions too late. We lose to a very poor side and Leeds are creeping up.

Totally agree, got back a while ago (75 mins getting home, 3 hours to get there!)

We were totally in control of the game, yet Brighton had 3 chances in the first half, all back post headers, two just went wide, and one hit the post. Other than that they never threatened at all.

2nd half again we had total control, without really creating anything ourselves, however Brighton were awful, until they brought on Baz Savage.

A tall quick forward. He won a header at the back post for their first, was involved in their 2nd, and won the corner for their 3rd.

I can't believe that Gower was left on so long, Black was waiting for about 3 or 4 minutes and Gower was clearly not fit and struggling, but he should of been on 15 minutes earlier. What was also the point of giving Eric 2 minutes?

Tilly had no answer to the change Brighton made, I said in a post a couple of weeks ago, that Clarke and Barrett can't play together, today proves it totally.

Brighton were rubbish, yet had 6 or 7 good chances, all headers at the back post. There is absolutley no point in out playing opposition, only to conceed goal after goal, to poor teams that just put a few good crosses into the box each game. All the pretty football counts for nothing.

Just another note, I thought Harrold was OK today!

a while ago Adrian Durham on Talksport said a quality manager can see things before the average fan does.
I hate to say Tilly seems to see them after we do eg Paynter isnt good enough, and the whole sub situation.

All that would do is invite pressure onto us. We could have done that and still conceeded the late goals. Tilly was wrong to change the back line at Leeds and right to leave it be today. If Richards is our defensive answer then he should be starting matches not being thrown on with ten minutes left.

I agree, Flavs worries me in the air, believe me Collis is no better and a worse shot stopper, meanwhile we have to hit the net at the other end and Steve Tilson is quite happy to use non league strikers to attempt to do this!

We need to get the ball forward more in the last ten minutes and have a threat up front to keep Brighton on the back foot.

The problem is that Clarke and Barrett can't play together, they are both too small. In our promotion years we had Prior, Edwards and Sodje providing the height and ariel cover.

We will not be going anywhere until Tilly realises this. Its not upfront our problems are, its at the back, and has been for months.

Completely agree with you. We got away with Flav's weaknesses two years ago because of the dominance in the air of Spencer Prior and later Efe Sodje. Neither of those two players have been replaced and whilst the two centre-backs we have now have a lot of good sttributes they are two similar and one of them needs to be replaced.

Moving Barrett to left-back and bringing Richards in alongside Clarke may be a short-term answer. Che Wilson had a 'mare today.
