Memory Lane December 1977 Div 4 Southend 4 Newport County 2.

A game I will always remember in terms of never give up. I was there in the west, with at least two other Southend High School friends at the time, Chris Hardwick and Dave Long and possibly others. Huge celebrations and we trooped off to the pub in the Hammerson Development in town (you know on the level below Guy Norris Records, that should help some of the over 60s work out the location) and celebrated with a pint or two. I was 17 at the time so at least one of us must have been ld enough to get served at the bar!! I can remember being pretty hoarse at school the following day. Good memories.
I was indeed there with you and Dave. There were a few other occasionals such as Matt Jones, Vern Barnes, Tim Read, Martin Sadler and Tim Owen but we three were the hard core. I had turned 18 in the October so I was legal. I think for some reason I was drinking Mackeson or brown ale.
