Yeah, that Souhend are rubbish - they've only got 5 fans...

As for the Shrimpers... I'd put the "Shrimpers only" fanbase at about the 4-5,000 mark. There's plenty who "support us", but never go.

I was actually unaware of the latter part of that... are you sure? That does I admit seem very bad. I knew he thought we were a sad bunch but genuinely was unaware that the message was imparted to a well wisher in his hospital ward.

But the rest of it I stand by - we don't forgive many ex-players, do we?

No, I'm not, but perhaps I haven't made myself particularly clear.

How many adults support a London side? Lots. I'm not saying that they don't support Southend FIRST AND FOREMOST... but there are plenty of fans who follow other teams too.

How many kids support a Prem team? Most.

Me, I want Southend to beat all other 91 league clubs. But my second club is Fulham, due to family and geographical reasons when I was a kid. My third club is West Ham, because my Uncle was the groundsman at Chadwell Heath and used to get me in to watch training sessions in the late 60's and also tickets to see the games.

So, for my impressionable 8 - 12 years old period, I was fed a diet of Friday night football at The Hall, and alternating Saturday games at Upton Park and Craven Cottage. I was probably 15 before I realised where my real loyalties lay.

I guess the point I'm making is that if you support a Prem side then you will not follow another team. But I reckon most lower league fans have a Prem side they follow as well, and this I guess is probably what David Lee meant.

Incidentally, when we used to play on Friday nights, West Ham fans used to be openly seen reading the Southend match programme whilst waiting for kick off on the Saturday.

Can you see what I meant? I'm not trying to say we have less than 1000 fans but more that we have less than 1000 exclusive fans - even if Southend are the main club (like me). Does this make sense?

Pretty sure that's the case, yes... it's the main reason (along with him bleeding us dry and not giving a toss as a player) that I despise him so.

You're right, though... we don't forgive many ex-players. Alas, I find myself partly being persuaded by Napster's arguments... although I'd still have Lee back.

Yes... but you've said that with your fbm eyes on, to be fair.

Aside from the fact that I supported Flamengo as a boy, I now support Southend and no other club.

Sure, I have plenty of soft-spots - mainly for clubs supported by my best mates (Ipswich, Man City, Donny Rovers, Bury).

But I don't have any other club apart from Southend. If Southend ceased to exist tomorrow (God forbid!) I wouldn't have anyone to support.

I think you should be crossing Cort off that list. Explain how he hasnt shown commitment? Along your line of thinking Royce, Collymore, Powell the lot of them, no commitment to SUFC.

Actually Royce and Powell in particular had given the club quite a bit of service and the majoritu of fans felt they deserved their chance at the big time. Collymore was a talent that none of us expected to keep and the money we got was most welcome. Cort however was given a chance by the club and just when Tilly turned the corner with the team Cort up sticks and beggars off. I would have accepted loyalty if he had given just one more season. Furthermore I would like to point out that his departure did not disappoint me. I think he is second rate. My opinion. The lads who have replaced him will win you over in the near future.
