Darryl Flahavan

I believe today's game marked Darryl Flahavan's 200th FULL appearance for the club (202 appearances in all) as he continues to chase fourth-place Mervyn Cawston's 242 in the all-time appearance chart for keepers.

Well done Darryl - I certainly didn't think he'd make 200 appearances for us, especially after the "will he, won't he" signing saga's of the last couple of years ...

he kept us in the game to day when we were 1-0 down he pulled off a superb save to stop mcgleish diving header

Sounds like he played well again today as well.

I have to admit, I've been very impressed with what I've seen of him this season.

For obvious reasons, most of the time I have to rely on radio commentary, which we all know isn't the best. I've been highly impressed with bart for most of the season, and was gutted when he got injured, but since then I've had the honour and fortune to see the Shrimpers play twice.

Against Swansea, I was impressed with Flavs, and thought he was having a blinder of a game. It would appear that since the signing of another quality keeper, he's improved immensely.. We now have two very good 'keepers, and Flahavan certainly deserves the honour of his 200th game.

Thats it. No dig, no rider, just a plain and simple "well done Darryl You certainly give me a lot more confidence this season. Keep up the good work"

Incidentally, does anybody think this improvement in Flahavan's game could have anything to do with the new, improved defence? We have some good experience in central defence now, and I wouldn't be surprised if help and advice has been forthcoming from here.

I'm with you on that one Mike. Well done Darryl!

Could be I suppose, but I feel its because, for the first time, his got some decent competition for the goalkeeper jersy so if he wants to be playing he needs to be improving all the time.

I really do hate to be a kill joy. Flahavan made an excellent save from McGleish (who was probably offside and he shouldn't even have given Flahavan a chance), but he proved yet again why he is not good enough at any level above this one.

From the resulting corner the ball came into the six yard box and he failed to deal with it under no pressure at all. There was one earlier in the half that he also should have dealt with but he didn't. Yes he is a good shot-stopper, yes his kicking is good, but it's not good enough in my opinion!

Mike do you have the top 10 Keepers by appearances. I can't believe Sammy isn't up there I thought he played for ages.

How many appearances has King Kevin made now and how does he fair in the all time list of player appearances?

Don't let Wiggy hear you say that, you'll never here the end of it until a mod locks the thread.

Now I hate to be a killjoy...but I'd assume the same for most keepers at this level, because thats the reason they're at this level i'd have thought? Not going to find a Premier$hite keeper in league 2. Just be happy we have two fully competent keepers, and stop slagging one or the other. We have a fantastic defensive record of late so lets lay off both of them until they warrant critiscm surely?

I wouldn't be too sure. John Ruddy of Cambridge has recently been training/on trial with Manchester United. Yeovil's goalkeeper has been linked on sereval occassions with a number of clubs including Charlton Athletic and West Ham.

Well until either of them play at Old Trafford or The valley, i'm perfectly willing to stand by my quote!
Plus West Ham are a mid-table championship team

I know that, but when they were linked with him, they where in the Premier$hite and Yeovil were in the Conference.

Also, another goalkeeper who has been linked with a move to the Premier$hite is the young goalkeeper at Exeter who is on loan from Leyton Orient, so technically his a League Two goalkeeper who has played at Old Trafford.

Ho hum! Darryl made the bench at Southampton a couple of times, what I'm saying is.. there is no goalkeeper at this level of the game good enough to play regular for a Premier$hite team AT THE MOMENT! No more comebacks, please!

He was shocking when he came to the Hall at the start of the season. Luckily for him and them it was at the time when we were having major trouble finding the net.

After years trying to model myself on them whilst trying to be one myself, I'd like to think I know a little bit about keepers and in my opinion, Chris Weale is definitely the best keeper in this league. I've been thoroughly impressed by him whenever I've seen him.

As for ours, I still don't know why a thread like this, which was started to say well done to Darryl, ends up being yet another comparison thread.

How are you right!? I think the only keeper with Premier$hite experience is Marriott at Lincoln. There is no goalkeeper at this level good enough for the Premier$hite otherwise they'd be playing... in the Premier$hite! There is no complete goalkeeper at this or many teams in the world, even the all conquering Arsenal are looking for a new keeper!

Because after he has a good game and makes some great saves, people still feel the need to have a dig at him, which isn't fair. Nicky had a bad game no-one says a word, some people on this board are Flahavanist! And I think both keepers are great for this club and both are good keepers in their own right, and both have had a great season so far, keep it up boys!

He was excellent today, made a breathtaking save in the 2nd half from a McGleish diving header which looked to be miles offside, so justice was done.

Who said anything about the Premier$hite? I'm not slagging anyone off. As far as I'm concerned I don;t believe that Daryl or Bart are good enough to be successful at a higher level. By that I mean that I would look to replace them if we were playing at a higher level. I did not say that they could not do a job at this level.

I only stated what I did because comments were made about Flahavan's excellent performance. I feel that that is not entirely accurate.

Essentially no one is allowed to talk about goalkeepers on this board anymore so I won't bother.
