Breaking News Daniel Kanu recalled by Charlton

Amazing debut, in fact probably the best debut a Southend player has had. Having said that he failed to impress after. One game wonder for me. Now it doesn’t really matter, Charlton called him back and that’s the end of that chapter. We move on.
The national leagues Jamar Loza one may argue

It is a recall which will harm us and also not help DK if he just bench warms.
Hopefully Woody will have picked up some positional knowledge from him as he (Woody) is about the only option alongside Cards.

SOUTHEND United boss Kevin Maher has spoken of his disappointment after Daniel Kanu was recalled by Charlton Athletic.

Kanu - who netted four goals in six games with Blues - had been expected to remain at Roots Hall until the New Year. But the 19-year-old striker has now been called back by the Addicks, much to the frustration of Maher.

“He did brilliantly for us and hit the ground running with the four goals against Solihull,” said Maher.

"He might not have scored in the games after that but he still really contributed. He’s a great kid too so it’s a big loss for us and it leaves us a bit short. It came as a bit of a surprise but that’s always the problem with loans."

Blues are now understood to be seeking clarification from the National League as to whether or not a replacement can be signed with the club still under a transfer embargo.

Surely the situation isn't THAT unusual that the rules aren't clear? It's almost as if the NL make it up as they go along,

They pretty much have been…

We’ve been knocked back from adding players to our squad numerous times. Obviously we’ve been allowed to add one or two, but we’ve put good cases forward for others to be added which have been rejected.

Whilst true, a little misleading. He scored four in one game, and nothing in the other 5 😂😂

Maybe it's to do with how injured some of our players are - need to have less than 16 non long term injured players to get a new player in.

Some of the comments on Kanu are incredibly harsh I feel. Perhaps he set the bar too high in that Solihull Moors game that we expected that every week.

He should have added to his tally, missed a great chance at Gateshead off the top of my head. Should have scored in the home game after Solihull too.

However, he lead from the front in terms of his work rate, along with Cardwel. Both pressed from the front, and both are willing runners in the channel too.

He has an old head of his shoulders, and his interviews were not that of an 18/19 year old making their way in the game.

He will go onto to have a career, probably at a higher level than us too, so the comparisons to Jamar Loza are harsh.

I wish him well, and I wouldn’t be overly surprised to see him in a Southend United shirt again. I know if the management trio had it their way, he’d be here until the summer for sure.
