Dan Kirby (Trade Price Cars) has passed away

A great friend and a true shrimper 😢
We had season tickets together in east yellows back when we were young. Dan is from a family of shrimpers and his dad and grandad (who sadly passed last year) sat not far from us. Dan has been a season ticket holder as a kid and when we were going he was still getting away with renewing his under 18s season ticket, I'm sure the club won't mind given the money he put into the club when he later became successful. With Dan's success in business he moved from the east yellows to the boxes and he took us all along for the ride. He started sponsoring a few players and a valued friendship blossomed between Dan and John White. Next came the back of shirt sponsorship, then the scoreboard, then the front of shirt. Something very special to a family of shrimpers. I will remember all the times we had together as fans, those shared moments of ecstacy and despair. Above all I will remember his generosity to his friends. You will be missed Dan RIP

Jeez. 3 generations in a year. Thats tragic. Really sounds like the kind of person/family the clubs needs right now.

Really awful news, and such a sad situation. As a society we need to be so better at looking out for each other. We can’t stop every tragedy, but we could do a lot LOT better than we do now or have ever in the past.

Thoughts to his family. RIP Dan - now at the big Roots Hall in the sky.

I first met Dan at secondary school and we both shared a bond being supporters of Southend in a school littered with Arsenal, Tottenham, West Ham and Man United fans.

He was a genuinely lovely bloke and had time for everyone! I watched his business become a success and respected and admired what he had achieved.

Seeing Trade Price Cars become the shirt sponsor made me so happy for Dan because as said he is in a family of Southend fans through the generations.

Reading recent business troubles was such a shame and I knew that Dan would make a success out of anything he did. As he did with all of his businesses.

A great person gone too soon and I haven’t quite got over the shock of him being gone.

My thoughts go out to his family, his wife and young girls who thought the absolute world of him.

RIP Dan

I knew Dan for a very long time, very genuine bloke and would always help people where ever he could. Sold me a couple of cars and always looked after me and went the extra mile.

I know how important his friendship with Whitey was to John over the final years of his career at Southend and how much the club meant to him.

Sleep well mate!
