I remember it feeling like a chore when Sturrock was in charge. The football wasn't great and we were still in League Two.

If I draw a comparisons to when I felt like that towards the club and now, I'm happier with the state we're in now without it being perfect.

Yes Brown irritates me. Yes we struggled to sign players. Yes we started the season poorly... But as others have said, that's Southend United and I wouldn't have it any other way.

The one thing that truly does annoy me, is that I haven't SEEN the club take real initiative of the promotion and attempted to steady our finances. It's all pinned the this new stadium pipe dream with no Plan B.

In the last 5 years it looks to me like we have done a decent job of finances, considering we were facing liquidation about six years ago. We have spent zero on transfers whilst brining in plenty in sales.

We certainly haven't had any big earners, despite what some claim, in the last few seasons. Achieved promotion from L2 ahead of clubs which have spent far more.

I know your still bitter because we got promoted. But if people don't want to be sneered at, they shouldn't sneer at the club on every thread.

No one forces you through the door at RH.

And no one forces you to read or comment on someone's thread.

It's been a very long time indeed that I have a vague interest in blues. Usually I'm buzzing home or way whether going or listening on the radio.

At the moment I'm just a bit meh.

The last time I felt like this was probably under Alvin Martins management.

I just find it hard to have any interest at the moment. The club is stagnating and the new ground is just as far away now as it was at the beginning. The difference now is that roots hall Is practically in a state of ruin. Not a penny being spent on any improvements.

On the pitch we are playing dull unimaginative football under a leadership that seem to have taken us as far as they can. They certainly don't seem capable of building a talented squad, even with the chairman's backing.

The players apart from the odd few don't appear to be happy at the club and there is little confidence in any attacking form.

I got a season card and will go , but it all seems a bit of a chore at the moment.

Anyone else feel the same? Or should I just get myself some meds.

its a shame you feel like that . I understand what you are saying and have been there before (i think lots of us have). I keep telling myself that its still early season, there is still the chance for everything to be great. Players are still to come back , youngsters are coming thru, maybe one day there will be a stadium good news story. I prefer to be glass half full if I can until there is enough evidence to prove otherwise. If you want to focus on the bad stuff on the club its easy enough to find lots to be depressed about--- but it doesnt get you anywhere.

This morning my CHeckatrade tickets came thru the post that I ordered thursday evening I ordered them thru the website, linked my account to my mates without assistance and it all worked. The tickets came in a really nice covering envelope which is new . Very impressive and shows progress from the marketing team . Not a big deal but its all about finding positives where you can

Charming as ever. People are allowed different opinions but telling someone to basically "put up and shut up" isn't helpful.

It's clear there is an agenda to do so to everyone who differs opinion. Either that or to spend every living second bombarding shrimperzone. Seems very much like mrsblue but in a different style. Maybe its someone who just wants to troll on the internet.

I would suggest just to put the ignore on the user.

That' s exactly what I have done, I think that there is more than meets the eye here!

Nothing can be as dire as the mid-80s surely. No crowds, no ambition, just a core couple of thousand or so going through the motions. The stadium is frustrating, the dome a farce BUT we have a Chairman that is not a hire and fire like many other clubs and he had made resources available for the last 2-3 years. Not an open book but we haven't had to scrape the barrel. If there's a lesson learned (which there won't be) I'd much rather gamble on 3 non-league prospects than a succession of end of career crocks. I stand to be corrected but Goater was surely the last one we had that paid his dues. Ron has his faults but I'd take him over John Main and Vic Jobson any day of the week.

I feel exactly the same - on and off the pitch we are in a dire state, and it doesn't look like improving any time soon.

Adam Barrett has made up for the last few. You'll be delighted to know that for many of us, he was MOM last week :winking:

Agree with you about the 80's. For those of us who stood on the terraces with less than 2,000 and watched the football served up back then..... The moaners of today don't know they were born.

It's funny as that is the era my dad took me to watch my first game.... Freezing cold Friday night game in 82. I was 8 years old and jumped and screamed on the north bank everytime we touched the ball I think we lost 2-1 to a team beginning with N (can't remember now :-(. I guess what I'm getting at is , No matter how bad things are now we do still have a club to go to, many have fallen by the way side. Relegated into to abyss of non league. Yes we are skint but we always have been. Small club? Hell, yes we are but like most people on here no matter what their views on today's team are I shall still support them through every win and defeat....through every brilliant manager and every Dick Bate. Through every criminal chairman we seem to attract.......this is why I love SUFC and Shrimper zone because it makes this 42 year old feel like that 8 year old kid everytime I walk into the rickety old stadium. Right time for meds

Wasn't John Main Ron's front man ?

For me it's ingrained in me ... I've seen worse, I've seen better. However , even when the times were exceptional , Webb and Fry, pushing at the top of the second tier, I always expected the worse and wasn't disappointed . However , for my own sanity , no matter when it's been awful, if we've been at home I've never missed a game unless for reasons out of my control. It's a time I sit with my father and for 90 minutes I can just sit and rely on others.
But deep, but when I separated from my wife , back end of 2014, the first game after was the facup defeat vs Chester, that day and game felt like the lowest point of my life, I never thought that I would be able to enjoy football again, time heals and the football , no matter how bad it may have been , was still my outlet.
I love watching Southend , always have always will, through good and bad times ( and my god since 86, there's been loads of the latter ).
UTB's ( for me anyway )

I dont think its a co-incidence people are talking about losing interest in the club when we are in the relegation zone.

All this talk of us having a run down ground is bizarre, its always been like that. Im sure if we were in the playoffs the state of the stadium would be a very low worry.

I have spoken with somebody who has connections to the club and there was an incident I alluded to on another thread which was taken down (I completely understand why as it is unsubstantiated and the site must be careful) if what I have heard is true there is a bit of a split in the club. I am happy to advise on PM

Tell you something, this has turned into a far better thread than anyone would have imagined.

FWIW, I've seen some horrendous matches and , as others have said, some pretty low times walking back from a rain drenched 1-0 home defeat to someone like Hartlepool.

But, man alive, there's been some wonderful memories.

When I look back, though, it's a part of me. You can't put your finger on it, but it's something that never goes away.

Met some amazing people, following the Blues around the country. Shared pints and stories too numerous to mention.

I played for SUSCFC and through there, have created lifelong friendships with people I still love to catch up with today in the Spread Eagle or at the match itself.

Sure, we aren't the best, but I'd never want us to be any different. Travelling away to some huge ground up North with a "lowly" team and sticking one over on those that think we are there for the taking.

Getting a bit older now, I'm more philosophical about things and know that bad times have been more than good, results wise over the years, but to still be healthy enough to walk down to the ground and look around the stands and think of some of the great moments is still something to be proud of.

This place, SZ, has brought back so many reminders of matches past and mixes them with the modern day views and the passion and frustration that many still have for the club.

We are where we are, but we do still exist and that's good enough for me.

I think most older supporters feel the same way? SUFC is indelibly inscribed in their hearts, unconditional love, come what may. These times have happened before and will probably happen again. It really will never affect the true love we have for the Club. We all hope for better times which will surely come.. COYBB
