Crowd - anyone else think it was strange...

...that last night's crowd (9109) for a huge game was actually LOWER than last week's nothing home game against Port Vale (9292). Especially given the larger away following last night.

Clearly our casual fans would rather sit at home and watch on Sky than get behind their team.

Very disappointed that we didn't sell out last night.

It surprised me to be honest. I expected you lot to be in the stand with us next to the segregation. As I've said the noise from you lot didn't really travel well into the stand, could be the way it's designed, I don't know? But we could barely hear you.

It's the same for you as us though. Short notice, finances are tight and it isn't easy to get out of other engagements. Nice to see some banter between the fans after the game and before that was all friendly though, that's the way it should be.

I think its always been pretty friendly between you and us M8 - I still have some fond memories of pre-match beers in your old ' clubhouse ' overlooking the racecourse in Div 4 days .

I think it comes from the fact that we are similar clubs , both with 'big ' neighbours , both trying to acheive similar things . I feel with your new stand you are a bit ahead of us now , and all credit to you looking at the disastrous situation you found yourselves in a few years ago .

I hope the mutual respect will continue , no matter who wins next Friday

I think it was just the difference of Saturdays 15:00 KO (last regular game) and Friday 19:45 KO. My reasoning is that the family section was packed at Port Vale (well my area!) and last night my block was, at best, half full.

Young kids etc.....

We created so much noise i'd of thought there was double the amount in the stadium.

most people seem to prefer watching it on the box

Good point Dash, certainly from where we were sitting, you could see that the east end of South lower was very sparsely populated.

Did you stop to think that some of us casual fans as you put it might not have been able to make it because of work or family commitments? Or perhaps it's only those that attend every game home and away that are loyal supporters. For your information, if we get to the final then fans will be flying in from all around the world to cheer our team on at Wembley. Are they allowed to come or are they not loyal and too casual for you?

Last nights attendance was noway lower than the vale game and there was also never 3,000 spare seats last night,

I did notice that there were at least 3 executive boxes not in use last night, that only accounts for about 30 though.

As you pointed out Kay there were a lot of empty seats in the South Lower, it's also worth pointing out that against Port Vale, part of the North West corner was open, which may well account for some of the difference.

It was heaving last night. The family stand (where I was in the West) was rammed to the rafters, literally. There were a few odd seats dotted around in the South lower, but other than those, it looked a sell out.

I've no idea how that came to a crowd of 9100.

Also, this may sound a tad cynical, fewer concessional seats would be used at a night game. For example; grassroots clubs who organise a trip for their club to a game would probably choose a day game.

Also after the regular season peeps are; skint, kids in bed, busy, working, away & have made plans.

I am really concerned about the South lower stand exodus of 'real' fans/season card holders as last nights 'emptiness' of 'my' stand was not good & I see that being the trend with increased costs & issues; more occasional fans will attend now rather than regular 'bums on seats'. I've dumped my increased costs onto the credit card without thinking; my kids would miss the games (and I) but the cost is going to kill me in June now. Note to self NOT to take a career break/redundency for building work on house because it's proving difficult to get back into work! I digress!

I have been one of the biggest sceptics when it comes to announcing the crowds at the Hall in the past but i think that this time it was about right.

If you took into consideration that Doncaster brought 800 or so that means there were around 1600 spare seats in the North bank plus whatever the corner holds, which we couldnt use because there was a TV camera in there. The south lower looked much emptier than normal especially in the blue seats so there must have been around 3/400 seats free. There were free seats in the East blues and although the west was pretty much rammed there were still quite a few odd seats that i could see from where i was at the front of U block. Then there are no shows, which has always bewildered me until now, why buy a ticket when you dont intend going ?? I found out yesterday when my nephew was admitted to hospital with apendicitis so he couldnt make it, anyway that must be 100 or so. So all in all thats around 2500 seats which when you take it from our true capacity of 11500 brings you down to about 9000, which was the announced crowd more or less. Plus its all done by computers now so it cant be fiddled.

Calm down! Calm down! No offence meant. (I thought you were meant to be genial!)

I'm actually not one of these attend every game types (to my shame I haven't managed one away game this season due to my own family commitments)

My point was that I was surprised the non-regulars/seasos/West Ham hangers on etc. chose last Saturday's meaningless tie against an already relegated side over a huge play-off game. If you take into account the bigger away following last night there must have been nearly 1000 less blues fans v Donny than v Vale - it just struck me as odd.

Officially 916 of us made the trip last night. If they're like me they'll be feeling real tired right now. I hope the traffic's easier for you next week.

Why pay £30+ for match ticket, travel and food when you can stay at home and watch it on Sky which already costs you £40 a month anyway, and get a blowy at the same time of the misses if your lucky... as you can tell I watched it at home and saved myself the expense. Whats the big fuss with that?

Well I'd like to know why, with so many spare seats in the ground, someone was yet again sold the same seats as me. As Season Card holders i expect to get to the ground and find my two sons and my seats waiting for us but for the 5th time this season I find someone sitting in them with printed tickets with our seat numbers on. An argument then ensues which I can simply do without. All I ever get is a simple apology from the ticket office. Well it isnt good enough anymore. *****g sort it out !! Discipline whoevers responsible cos if it happens again next season I'm writing to Ron. There's no excuse with the computer based systems they have. Or perhaps they arent as good as they think. It has to be human error surely?
Anyone else had this problem ? Or know why it happens ?
