I'm in my mid 20s so I suspect it will be months before I'm eligible but I'd be happy to take it once it's available. People keep going on about us not knowing if side effects will appear in a year's time but has there been any vaccine in history where everyone's seemed fine until months after taking it?
most adverse events associated with a vaccine occur within 1 month and are well understood and mild (sore arm, feeling a bit 'rough'). The things that the regulators will be looking into carefully are any signals for malignancies and pregnancy issues, which would take months/years to develop. These adverse events have not been associated with any recent vaccines and so there's no biological or clinical reason to have a specific concern about them, and any hint of anything happening would be quickly and closely investigated.

Don't forget, we're giving healthy people a vaccine, and so regulators have a very very high threshold when it comes to safety. It's different for toxic cancer therapies for patients who are very unwell.

Also, many of the vaccines now will have 6 months or more safety data for some individuals in the studies, as some began back in April, and that'll continue to 'mature' as we move into next year.

Agreed @Pubey

Let's also get it out into our frontline health workers asap too as I know for a fact that at both Basildon and Southend Hospitals, they are being told not to isolate if they come in contact with someone with Covid, unless they show symptoms.

I think there is a bit more to it than that.
Priority testing is being used to keep staff from the stress of not knowing and isolating.
Some staff are also taking part in trials of new, nasal only, swabs and positive tests are needed to check accuracy against regular testing.

My elderly neighbour was almost skipping down the road, he's been told he is on the list for the jab and was over joyed
I was a bit emotional seeing that interview this morning with Margaret Keenan when she was saying about seeing friends and family she’s not been with for the best part of 9 months. I guess when you’re her age it’s a case of adding life to your years

Thought this was an interesting chart on the Pfizer vaccine. Shows it takers almost a fortnight to become effective, but then the difference is quite striking.

It's going to be a while before I get offered it, by that time a lot more will be known.

I applaud all that are stepping up at this stage and embracing the vaccine

It's almost a couple of weeks since the first vaccine jabs, but we have not heard much since from the authorities on how things are going. Have they stopped vaccinating people? Have they run out of vaccine already?
