I think it's complacency mate! People thinking we're through it and near the end!
Having 2 jabs doesn't make you invincible but this is what some may think!
Sadly this is far from over and lifting of restrictions is a decision I wouldn't want to make.

I’m seeing leaks in the press tonight of a month delay till 19th July.

All I will say on the matter is I heard talk of a protest from people really hit hard by the restrictions who are going to be affected again protesting at Downing Street on Monday morning. With this leak coming out expect to see the numbers increase dramatically.

Depends who you listen to. I have read that the vaccines only add up to 1.3% to the immune system. You take your pick and live with your choice.

Hence the extension of 'Freedom Day' to protect the most susceptible age groups (40 and over) with a double jab. I can understand the caution but once this is done though, we must return to normality.

Too many other fish to fry that have been put aside in this last year and a bit.

Reports I've read are that current cases are generally in the young and those with only one vaccine dose.

Ancedotally I heard of a youngster returning from uni, got sick, tested positive. Both parents, in their 50's, got tested, both positive, no symptoms. Both parents have had both jabs.

Sem to remember the Doc. telling us after our second pfizer jab. (back in late April) that we wouldn't die, or end up seriously ill in hospital as a result of covid-19.Not that's it's stopped my wife and I taking sensible precautions as before ie social distancing,mask wearing,hand washing etc.

Yes cases are rising but I think some perspective is needed. Just over 1000 people are in hospital and only 158 are in beds with the option of mechanical ventilation not necessarily required in the entire country.

It’s still not confirmed they will but it has also been advised they change the guidance on data released regarding patients in hospital.Now advised different figures for patients admitted with Covid and a separate figure for patients admitted with non Covid related reasons who then test positive in hospital after admission. This should have been done months ago.

We are also surge testing and carried out 1.3 millions tests yesterday. Pretty safe to say a large proportion of them are healthy with no symptoms and nothing wrong with them.

My former step father in law has been diagnosed with Parkinsons from tests over a year ago, and has been prescribed meds, which keep being "upped" as they become less effective. With the huge decline in his physique and frailty (this is a man who used to be an RAF fireman, then managed a sheep farm, with a pedigree flock and as gardener on a large estate, walking miles daily with the estate gun dogs) over a very short frame of time, we are all desperately worried about him as his symptoms seem, to us, to suggest something much more in line with a brain tumour. Yet, no-one seems to be in any rush to try and see him - no specialist since the diagnosis, nothing. My former sister-on-law is currently involved in trying to get him seen.

It's for stuff like this going on still, that the country needs to open up.

Let's hope he gets seen to soon and that it's not the suspected worst case scenario.

But you make a good point and it's something more people will come to consider I think as this year progresses. As we seem to be in the final recovery stage from the initial crisis (touch wood) we do need to start paying attention to the other issues developing in the background.

The cat could have kittens mate. So far, the various vaccines have provided protection of 80%+ after two jabs for ALL strains of the virus so far detected. I have no doubt the Scientists and the Pharmas are already working on boosters to make the vaccines more robust and now the world has got it's head round how to handle a pandemic of this size, we should be better prepared for any further outbreaks. Once you've had your second jab just practice sensible awareness and stay away from too many experts sounding off.

The latest info suggests that the symptoms in this new variant are more akin to a 'bad cold' in the younger unvaxed age group. The next thing will be us trying to stop the flu or bad colds from becoming a thing

And there's the rub. Us old gits had the flu jab yearly which only gives us 60+% protection against flu, but with the advent of mask wearing in public the flu cases (real ones, not us blokes pretending) have plummeted and anecdotally I believe bad colds have been few and far between.

Bit more than bad cold but not serious at the moment.

Without wishing to over egg this subject for too long, I often wondered why so many oriental countries populations wore masks as standard, now I know.
