Thought the presser was an interesting watch today. Boris without saying the exact words made it quite clear nothing was going to be brought forward even if the data is ahead of what they expect it to be when asked. So it’s not data not dates it’s actually going to be the dates they’ve already given and doesn’t matter what the data is.

As a few people have said - there needs to be time to allow the data to reflect the impact of the easing stages. The impact, if any, of schools reopening probably won't show for a couple of weeks.

I am 62 and got my letter yesterday to book a first and second jab on line. Which i did.
When you book on line i was given Wednesday 17th March at the Cliffs.
You also have to book your second jab which was Wednesday 2nd June again at the Cliffs.
So all booked within a couple of minutes

I got my first jab on Sunday. A week and a half before my booked appointment at the Cliffs.
Went with my other half to get her jab at the Excel in London. I asked if i could have the jab (whilst she was having hers at 10.30 in the morning) as i was in that age group. They were more than happy to give me the jab, and cancel my appointment at the Cliffs.
I was very suprised at the lack of people going for the jab at the Excel. There seemed double the amount of volunteers too people getting there jab. No waiting they seemed to rush to help you. Very well run though. !!

I completely agree with that and understand it. However they've left 4/5 weeks between changes in restrictions, you can tell before then which way the data's going. As you've just said probably 2 weeks. All we've heard is data not dates but when asked if the data is better than expected would it change it just got ignored. Looking at the data works both ways.

And this isn't me banging on about being opened up any quicker again, I think it's a genuine important question. If you are basing your decisions on data and the data is better than you projected when you start to open up then I can't see why some things can't possibly be brought forward. Because if you're not open to doing that you're not following your ever repeated motto of data not dates.

Are the data better than projected?

Also, we're now awaiting seeing if the schools reopening causes anything serious to happen. Hopefully not, but we'll only find that out in 3-4 weeks time.

I don't know that's for the Government and scientists to judge however I have inkling it is from the models released that I've seen. But that's besides the point. I just felt it was an important question and point that if you are going by data it's something that should be taken into consideration. However it was made quite clear yesterday that it won't be.

I think the next relaxation is March 29th?, So only 3 weeks. And then after that Apr 12, so only 2 weeks. My 2 weeks guess to see if data is changing, you might want another week or 2 to see if it is a trend of a blip. Plus they want to give notice that restrictions are changing so businesses can prepare, so you can easily get to longer periods needed.

I've also said it wouldn't surprise me if it is speeded up. If the public go faster (as they did on the way into lockdowns) then the Govt will react

Fair point. But there must be a level where they want the hospitalisations and deaths to be at each stage of the unlocking. I understand the cautiousness and I understand how they are doing it. But just to completely disregard any data being ahead of where you expect it to be is not following the data.

I think we could debate restrictions/lockdown until we're blue in the face. For me BoJo has got it right this time, so many mistakes have been made in the past year with regards to relaxing too early.

We're heading in the right direct and dare I say it, leading the way with our vaccination program and easing of restrictions plan. Why change it, other countries are looking at us as a module going forward.

Easter is probably in the back of the minds of the GOV as well. Lets face it, we all like a Sunday roast with family and friends. Seeing as Christmas was a disaster with infection rates, maybe the GOV want to see if the infection rates go up or down.

For me, things are looking a little brighter, easing anything too soon would be a disaster. Kids are back at school which is the biggest positive who are being tested twice a week, masks eg. These kids need to go back to school, they'll be running our economy and GOV in years to come, bearing in mind they've missed a year of education.

If we get this right, people will be able to take staycations in the UK this summer. We have some beautiful places in the UK if the weather is nice, it's a great place to take a holiday. Also, it will boost our economy with people spending money on holidays at home.

That's my take anyway.

To be honest in this case Im not saying he has got it wrong at all and I do understand the caution. I just think it is a very dangerous precedent to completely rule out speeding anything up if the data is better than you expected it to be or reaches the level you have set for the next restriction to be eased, whatever it is. You can't say we're following the data but then stick to the original roadmap irrespective of what the data says.

Don't get me wrong I wasn't expecting him to say we're a lot better than we thought and everything's going to open 2 months quicker. But an acknowledgement of if the data is better than we had hoped we could potentially ease some things sooner would have given me a lot more confidence.

Just been for a mid afternoon stroll forgetting schools out was back in full flow. Parents all back to gathering in groups with no distance or masks.

Got the blood pressure down and thought I'd sneak into Sainsburys Local for some post match chocolate. Only to find a bloody great queue of parents and children and a staff member back on doorman duties. Surely the have had all day to get what they need. Gave it a miss and decided single malt will be needed later.

Hahahaha, you know it, watching the blues, you need hard stuff.

When I was at school I was taught that datum was the singular and data was the plural form. Can't say I'm very happy about this modern usage (Glad I dropped Latin when I changed schools though).

I live opp the Highlands Surgery vaccination centre in Leigh, & whereas up to 3 weeks ago, people were queuing everyday throughout the week, since then i reckon they are only open 2-3 days per week.
I received my NHS letter a week ago, on which it quotes 'you can book your appts at a vac centre'. So i took this over the road, & the NHS Nurse said i had to book online, as also mentioned in the letter, & i wouldn't be contacted by my GP, which is Highlands Surgery as well!.
So i did this, all sorted, going to Mill Hall in Rayleigh on Sun for my 1st one.
Blow me, i get a call from Highlands Surgery this afternoon, asking me if i want to have my injection this week. Told them i tried to book with them a week ago, but was told i couldn't???.
When i told the lady what i'd been told last week, she said that was wrong, & i shouldn't have been told that!.

I got a letter from the NHS a couple of weeks ago to book online my two covid vaccinations. I did that straight away for the Cliffs Pavilion and got confirmation. A few days ago I got a text from my doctors, saying I need to book my covid vaccinations. Bless them.

I work in health data/statistics and referring to data in both singular and plural contexts is very normal/common. Agree it might not be grammatically correct, but there are bigger things to worry about. Plus I was responding to a post where it was used in that way and kept to the same grammatical style for clarity ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
