God yes I remember playing for 2nd Hadleigh cubs in a 5-a-side footy tournament... I was sh1te, but bigger than all the others so I just clubbed my way through Adam Barrett-esque (without the talent, obviously)

As a kid I used to root for Villa, but only really because my brother was a Liverpool fan (who subsequently ditched them for Manure

) and Villa always seemed to be the challengers to their throne. After my first Southend game, in 1990, I decided that I much prefered that to watching on the TV and I still can't imagine wanting to support anyone else.

Saw my first Southend game when I was 10. That was 35 years ago. Used to stand in the paddock (that's the front of the east for you newbies)

I was a Liverpool fan until I was 12 and went to watch Rangers v Bayen Munich,
driving along the motorway to the game I was amazed at the number of people all supporting one side and loved the atmosphere, I decided to support Southend there and then and the 3-1 win over Crewe in October 86 was my first game, which included a great Jim Stannard rugby tackle!!

6th rayleigh cubs were the best!

Ah! When the game was getting exciting all the young 'uns in the paddock would start banging on the advertising boards. We didn't need new-fangled things like drums in those days, we made our own fun!

9th Leigh-on-sea cubs and scouts (Highlands Methodist)

I was never really interested in football until I was 9. I became a Chelsea fan because my Dad was and my family are all West Londoners. Not forgetting that in 1978 Chelsea beat the dirty scousers 2-0 in the FA cup when the scousers were the best team in the land by miles. (Chelsea were total crap at that point in time for all of those who are too young to remember)

When I realised we had a team in Southend as well I badgered my old man to take me to the Shrimpers. My first ever game was a 2-0 win over Scunthorpe in 1978.

I never had a conflict supporting two teams because they never played each other competitively. I followed Chelsea all over the place in the late 80's as well as attending a healthy number of Southend games. At that point Chelsea were my main team.

The crunch for me came when I moved down here in 91. I finally realised that I was more Southend than Chelsea. I like to see Chelsea doing well and still go to the occasional game but I don't love them like I love the shrimpers.

Always a Shrimper with a closet affection for Spurs.

I have a massive admiration for ANY fan that supports their local club.

is that why your son has a Barcelona shirt ORM ?

1988 onwards - David Crown, hero

We can't be resposible for our kids taste in football clubs, sadly. My son has gone through Man U, Rangers, and Celtic phases but now at 13 he is a true Shrimper (though his Scottish team is still Celtic - sorry, TFS). We can only pray they see the light, and try not to push them too hard.

Flirted with a number of 'bigger' clubs when I was little. Everton, (Mum's team) Man Utd, (Dad's second team) QPR, (had Clive Allen's autograph) Spurs, (couldn't tell you why) and Liverpool (got a cheap kit from when an aunt worked in a sports shop).

However, since Dad first took me to Roots Hall almost 20 years ago the Shrimpers have been the team for me (in England at any rate - I closely follow the fortunes of Real Betis and Celtic too).

Always Southend. First game in 1971/2 (age 6) vs. Doncaster Rovers at Roots Hall over the Easter period. Still have the programme in pristine condition. We won 2-1 Billy Best and Bill Garner and went on to win promotion that season.

Only other clubs with a tiny smattering of interest for me (i.e. look at their results) are East Stirlingshire (because they are so woeful) and Berwick Rangers in the Scottish Leagues; and Norwich City ('because I like the place).

There is a list of clubs I've hated down the years, of course Col U permanently, together with West Ham. I hated Watford in the late 70's and Lincoln (late 70's/early 80's). I hated Cardiff in the mid to late 70's and early 80's because one of their fans gobbed in my face on the South Bank when we beat them in the 4th round of the Cup in '75 (aged 9). I've never had any negative feelings towards Orient, probably because they are an irrelevance.

Grew up supporting Liverpool (mainly 'cos they were always on the telly as I found football). Then OS persuaded me to come to a Shrimpers game about 15 years ago (the year we went top of the old second division for an hour or so). Been coming since and had a seaso since the new South Bank was finished.

While I'm still a big fan of the reds and enjoying the Rafa-lution, if it came to Southend v Liverpool, I'd be a shrimper.

Thanks for showing me the light OS!!

Truth is, I never liked you and wondered how I could best make you suffer.

Having followed the Shrimpers for a while, I just knew our bubble would go 'pop' and by then you would be hooked.

My plan was working just fine until bloddy Tilly and Brush cocked it all up!
