Surprised Petts and Jay were offered deals to be honest..

Cody = trouble..

All agents are trouble though.
I never thought I'd hear myself defending Cody but at least he knows what Unlce Ron is like in terms of contract negotiations and will hopefully be hard but fair in getting his clients a good deal. Face it, he's brought some key members of the double promotion squad to the club e.g. Gutts.

I thought Darryl was already under contract for next season - I take it he's been offered an extension.

I am not surprised that either Jay or Petts have been offered new deals, it is whether they accept them or not.

Good news about Spinner as well IMO.

Depends what terms we have offered Petts and Jay.

Must be reduced I reckon.....

Still cant personally see what Petts adds. He has been a good servant but couldnt get into last years side so how is he going to get in this years?

Good to hear we've offered Jay a new deal - I didn't thnk we would.

It's probably in vain, but I hope Smith can get back to his 'old' self, as I reckon the Jay Smith of 03/04 (until his injury) would have easily coped in the Championship.

Im Hoping we will offer Freddy Eastwood a 10 year Contract

If any of you have actualy read the article it is a load of hot air, not one thing in it is a solid statment.
Quotes like "...I'm sure we will all get together to talk..."
"Southend want to keep Jay and Carl at the club," revealed Cody. "Thats the important thing and as their agent it's up to me to sit down with Ron Martin to negotiate their contracts."
Whole article is a story about nothing I'm afraid.

New transfer regulations mean that we can only offer him a 5 year tops.

Really pleased to hear Jay has been offered a new deal. He is still our most gifted player and would definitely thrive in the Championship if - deep breath - he can keep himself fully fit. I'm sure he'll sign again as he seems to love the club and, assuming the JCR deal goes through properly, he'll probably want to stick around with his best mate.

As for Petts, well, I've always liked him and think that technically he is far better than people give him credit for - excellent first touch, tigerish in the tackle and a good passer of the ball. I'm guessing Tilly and Brush have learnt from the MK Dons fixture, where Bentley and Guttridge failed as a partnership, and are earmarking Petts as Maher's back up in the anchor role. Having said all that, though, it's more doubtful whether he'll agree to stay given how few games he was involved in last season.

I suspect that it has a lot to do with maintaining team spirit and making sure that the players feel rewarded for the past two seasons. If we sign four or five more players then we'll have a healthy sized squad, and I don't think that players like Jay or Petts are too bad to have as backup. We can always send them out on loan and recoup some of their salary costs if it comes to it.

Petts? Meh.

Could I be looking on the doom and gloom side to think that if we're offering the likes of him and Gray deals that perhaps we haven't got too much clout in getting decent aquisitions in

I think its good. I'm sure the contracts are on the table and then its up to them whether they want to take them or whether they want to find first team football elsewhere. Same with Gray.
