Computer queation?

there is an instance of a program called ntrn.exe functioning as a front for some spyware that messes with your internet explorer start page, so it could (potentially) be that? If that's the case, you may need to get a program called HijackThis, and track down an internet forum full of folks who know how to use it?

have you ever had norton on your pc winkle?
I run Norton on my P.C but have not run it on my sons. It will not boot up in safe mode either, so there are not to many options left. Is there away I can re formatt it without going into windows setup?

South bank hank was talking about this earlier, but as it wont boot up windows, I cannot run any program!

Do you live near Rochford?

I have a disc that deletes the partition and then re-formats it (from boot so it doesn't need to load!) .. which you could borrow, if you live near?

Boot from CDROM, then wen u get to the command screen try format C: wiping the hard disk clean, then run the operating system setup?

Well, thanks for your help jay, I am going to try some other things tomorrow and see if I can get it going, so watch this space.

Theres not alot I can think of you can do, if you can't load the computer, not even in Safe Mode.

I'll keep thinking, and I'll get back to you if I think of anything.

If you want the CD, i'll keep checking here, but just drop a PM.

Or own one of each - then at least uve always got something to do the basics with!!
That'll be me then ;)

Even though you've not meant to install Norton, that's what it is that's causing it... hence the hatred for it...

Formatting is sounding the only way; can you not install the hard drive to another pc and copy all the important stuff?!

I'd rather suffer the virus's than put myself through the pain of a mac...

:thump: :thump:

not really, took me less than a week to get used to it, and you can get a program to run both windows and mac on the mac so u can have the best of both. Anyone who has switched from windows to mac will tell you how much better it is. :guns:

Ooooh you get the picture!

If you want me to have a MAC so bad, buy me one. My birthdays in November! :D

Thats what I though. ;)

Just out of interest have you ever heard of a "catastrophic media failure"? I've got a feeling its to do with a damaged sector of the hard disk (maybe even a physical fracture), but I can't find anything useful on the internet about it.

Catastrophic?! That don't sound good!! Media would imply one of the storage devices, so you're probably right... I could only imagine that using some a strong term that it's irreparable, but never actually heard of it tbh

Ive managed to get all the data off it which was my main concern, but looks like ill have to buy a new one to get the whole computer running again.
