I have downloaded and installed IE7 but want to go back to IE6.....is this possible???

yeah it's possible, apparently if you uninstall IE7 it will automatically go back to IE6.

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/ie/aa740486.aspx

however, i don't understand why you would want to go back, tabbed browsing looks a bit weird at first but it is definitely a good thing.

and also i would definitely definitely recommend Firefox, a lot more flexible, probably faster than IE and doesn't clog up your comp with microsoft crap.

i think most people would recommend you trying firefox, it's just a matter of installing it and giving it a try

Tell me more.......does the whole look change??

What will i be using it for just web browsing?

Yes, it's just a web browser, although I believe you can get an add-on which is mail too.

Doesn't look exceptionally different, but to me seems a whole lot user friendly and handles stuff like downloads etc better.

In fact I think IE7 was partly designed to try & win back those who have defected to Firefox!

I am interested now.........i down loaded IE& last night and sited like facebook slowed right down, maybe it is the extra security that is packed in to IE7 that slows things down?

Have you tried Avant?

The alias keys and the mouse gestures are excellent.

My Facebook seemed slower last night as they seem to have rolled out some kind of "Live Chat" software on the site!

yeah I noticed this on FB as well with the 'live chat', maybe they looked on SZ for inspiration ;)

And I'll also recommend Firefox over IE any day of the week.

That is what tempted me to download IE7, i went in to the new chat thingy and it said that i need to upgrade my IE.

I should have done a simple poll.....DOHH, but i am guessing from you guys that there would only be one winner.

AS you can run IE and firefox in tandem, so if you dont like it you wont be stuck with it

Now that idea i like mate, i hate it when you install something then you are stuck with it.......Cheers Matt

Firefox is good and I use it myself but you only really get the true benfits if you design your own or use specific open source plugins.

The biggest benefit with Firefox is that proportionately, not that many people use it and proportionately, there are a lot more savvy people using it. As a result, the obvious target for finding security loopholes in is IE.

Whilst IE's security flaws are well documented, if people were really looking, I'm sure more would become exploited in Firefox. In truth, there's very little that can't be hacked on the net but there you go.

Just you wait until Firefox 3, I have been testing since it first went into Beta and it has some cool additional things, also it does seem to render much faster.

Also if you are like me and need to test sites and web hardware against both browsers then IE Tab extension is a must.

The extensions I recommend are

Adblock Plus
British English Dictionary
FireFTP
Foxtrick (Hattrick Players)
IE Tab

Bob....you kind of lost me with that last bit mate??

Firefox is a highly configurable browser, so if you goto Tools -> Add-ons -> Get Extensions.

Then you will be taken to the Mozilla site which allows you to look at extensions you wish to add. However beware that the more add-ons you install the more chance you have slowing down Firefox to IE levels.

Phil, all flaws with browsers are widely documented, although the stats do show that Firefox has less recorded than IE. Now as you say every browser will have its flaws but it is the way the organisations behind the browsers respond to such security issues.

Micro$oft are known to drag their heals on releasing fixes to IE and sometimes even ignoring some, hoping that do not get too big. As Mozilla is open source and community based, fixes are worked on much quicker as they have more developers at their disposal, the joys of open source code.
