If I were that kids parents I wouldn't accept any apology. Let's take away the fact that he's a cancer survivor, it's still so wrong for an adult to direct such hateful abuse to a child for no reason...

Readers in the comments below say he should be relived of his duties, and I'm not far from their view. My employer has a social media policy and I know I would be called into the office if it were me...

"I am truly sorry for the hurtful comment that I made on the thread on the football forum. It was wrong, insensitive and very low of me as a person. I should have read the post fully before putting any comment on it, but it is still unacceptable that I would even think about posting any comment.”

'If only I'd read the post fully, I wouldn't have called a 10 year old boy a ****'.

Step away from the computer, my friend, step away!

Just for calling a 10 year old a **** he deserves the sack.

I will be bringing this up tonight with the meeting with Danny Macklin.

At least it was only seen by a few people on Facebook so no damage to the reputation of Southend United.

Sadly it has been published in local papers.....no idea what the bloke was thinking, but keeping his job would IMO be seen in a very bad light by many football fans.

Now one of the top stories on Daily Mail website.

I had a good nose through the Mail and Mirror online and couldn't find the story about how a member of staff walked 36 miles to raise money for Little Havens, on Saturday, along with others.

I must have not been looking hard enough, as I'm sure it will be there somewhere.

Bad news sells Andy.
