No.
Yes

Cannon, in Westcliff-on-Sea. This opened as the Metrople in 1939, became the Essoldo in 1954, then the Classic 1972. It became the Cannon in 1979, before finally closing in 1991. The site is now a Halfords branch

Info from www.sarfend.co.uk

There were two Cannons in Southend though weren't there? That might be the confusion.

I think I went to that Cannon once. Saw Ghost there in about 1990. I'd completely forgotten about that place.

Morris Marina, Matt.
We're both wrong.  I had another look and realised what it was - a Vauxhall Cavalier Mk 1.  Look at the position of the fuel cap and the black trim above it, and then look at this photo... I'm sure of it.

Yup - Mk1 Cavalier..  the car in front of that is a MK2 Escort
Sorry Matt, I thought you were refering to the Bile Yellow car in front of the Cavalier. I based my identification mainly on the colour, but I bow to jstallan's judgement, it might well be a mk2 escort.

Hmmmm, the last film I saw at the Classic was 'Silent Movie' - the only word uttered in it was Burt Reynolds shouting "NO!".

I remember seeing the Star Wars films (the proper ones, not the phantom attack of the colonics rubbish) at the Odeon.  And that scene in Airplane after the line "When control tower hears this the sh!t will hit the fan" was much better having seen it on a 20ft high screen.

Closer to home, we had the Arts Centre where I saw Jaws - not a film you can watch on the small screen it just isn't worth it - and was introduced to the delights of Monty Python there.  A most enjoyable evening was had watching Watership Down, too, pretending to cry loudly and flicking peanuts at our headmaster.

Yes, the Classic, as already said, became the Classic, as did the ABC cinema.

I think the irony(!) of Silent Movie was that the only spoken part was not Burt Reynold's, but the mime artist Marcel Marceau, saying "Non!"
