Clarkey wants to stay

Belgrave didn't help himself there though by screaming out that the ref (Mr Singh IIRC) was a f*****g c**t.

that was the funniest thing i have ever heard, i was right at the front next to em, heard every word loud and clear (think most the ground did to).

I have to say that when I read the Echo I was not so convinced about his future. This is what PC actually said:

"It's flattering to be linked with a move to one of my old clubs and I'm still friendly with a lot of people there but I'm a Southend player until anyone tells me differently and that's fine with me."

I would say (in football language) that very much still leaves the door open!

What a cynic! Here is the full article. You forgot to quote these bits. This is what he actually said.

SOUTHEND United defender Peter Clarke insists the Shrimpers can cope without their star striker Freddy Eastwood.
The goal-getting forward looks set to leave Roots Hall before the start of next season, with Wolverhampton Wanderers leading the chase for his signature.
But Clarke insists Steve Tilson's side can still clinch promotion without the services of the highly-rated hot-shot.
"Freddy's record speaks for himself but one player doesn't make a team," said Clarke, 25.
"If he goes then we need to reinvest the money back into the team but I think we can still go up without him because we have a lot of good players here."
Eastwood has hit home 65 goals in 135 games for the Seasiders and that fine record has attracted interest from elsewhere.

Clarke, who impressed in the second half of last season, has also been linked with a switch away from the Shrimpers, with his former club Blackpool rumoured to be interested.
But the former Everton trainee is keen to stay at Roots Hall.
"I'm contracted to Southend and I'm looking forward to next season," said Clarke.
"It's flattering to be linked with a move to one of my old clubs and I'm still friendly with a lot of people there but I'm a Southend player until anyone tells me differently and that's fine with

Come on the Clarkey.

Blackpool, if you do want him, you will have to cough up big time. This isn't a Freddy type situation.

Doesnt matter what Clarke had said there would still be someone who reads between the lines and get all doom and gloom.

The only way they would be happy is if he came out and said "Im definitely not leaving ever", but no footballer, even one who is happy, is likely to say such a definitive statement.

I think Clarke did well for us last season but Im not convinced he is guaranteed championship quality, too many mistakes.

That's ok then because he's playing in league one next season. Clarkey sweated blood trying to keep us up at the end of last season. He's the type of player we need to get back up.

I know, my comment is in context of the thread and the possibility of him leaving for a Championship club.

I think he will be a good player at League one level but as I say, Im not sure he will be in huge demand at Championship level.

Very glad he wants to stay, he's been phenomenal the second half of the season just gone and if he can play like that in league one, which I'm sure he can, then our defence might stop leaking goals.

Good news.

Clarkey sweated blood trying to keep us up at the end of last season.

I have to say that even without his excellent performances from Christmas onwards his attitude really did impress me towards the end, he looked devastated during the Luton game when it looked almost certain we'd drop. Of all out there that day he was the one who really stood out with his efforts to save us. Stark contrast to certain others mentioning no names who I saw laughing and joking minutes from time, (cough) Hunt (cough).

For me he's a Championship player but I'm delighted he's happy to stay - if we fail to win promotion next season I wouldn't begrudge him a move back to the 2nd tier.
