Clarkey wants to stay

Leighite

Youth Team
Good old Clarkey! After all this speculation about Clarkey going back to Blackpool and talk of Fred leaving, Clarkey has given us a boost and put it into perspective. As reported in today's Echo, he is very happy at Blues and says that we will be ok without Freddy and still push for promotion. Despite being a good player, one player doesn't make a team and if we invest the sale proceeds in some new players, should Freddy go, then we will have a good squad to contest league one next season.

Great news and just what we wanted to hear. If Fred goes, wish him all the best, the most important thing is our "team" for next season.

great to hear... clarkey is a top player and really important that he stays IMO

Good stuff Clarkey, didn't think he's elope after a season anyway but always nice to hear a player commit!

Clarke and barrett should be enough to deal with most strikers in league one, yes they were shown up in the championship last season but I very confident that this season leaking goals will not be a problem as AB has proven that he one of the best centre backs at this level and clarkey should compliment him nicely.

Credit to Blackpool for trying to unsettle him but he's not going anywhere. I've never thought for a second he'd leave.

There you go, that's the All At Sea kiss of death on him.

Best news I've heard all day.

So glad he's staying, and I'm glad he's come out and publically said that.

I'm also glad he's mentioned the point about if Freddy goes it's not the end of the world as a team is not one man. Thats the commitment I love to see at Roots Hall.

Top bloke, Clarkey. I'd love you to be here for as long as possible.

Top man. I've been very impressed with our Clarkey. Suddenly, a tilt at the playoffs doesn't feel an impossible dream with players of his calibre pledging themselves to the club's future.

:)

Even if Clarke stays, i still think we need a tall, commanding c half other wise we will once again be exposed in dead ball situations. You guys seem to rate both Barrett and Clarke,so ok you see the games i dont, but i would still like to see cover in this area.

I agree and thats why T & B have already stated they want a giant CB with pace in this summer.

Agree, its Clarke or Barret with A.N Other for me, not together. Both too slow, and prefer to hoof it out rather than play it out. Would love Iriekpen alongside one of them.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! He's scum!!!!! Anyone remember when he was on loan at Orient and his diving antics when Belgrave got sent off?!!! He deliberately went down and stayed down until after he saw Belgrave shown red then got up straight away and mouthed off at our supporters behind the goal.

If he were to sign I would NOT be happy.......

I have to say that when I read the Echo I was not so convinced about his future. This is what PC actually said:

"It's flattering to be linked with a move to one of my old clubs and I'm still friendly with a lot of people there but I'm a Southend player until anyone tells me differently and that's fine with me."

I would say (in football language) that very much still leaves the door open!

SS

Absolutely agreed.
I would not be at all suprised still if Clarkey finds a new club, even if it is his old one.
One of the first things he said when he joined us was not really, I want to play for Southend, but it was I want to be playing Championship football. Which, frankly, you can't blame him for.
He's proved he's capable of it, and at his age, he probably has one eye on a move back up there, whether that be his old club or not.
I will be gutted if he goes, as he is in our top 3 players for next year in my opinion, but I also don't think he owes us anything.

oooh I remember that AD, what a first class to55er. :finger:

Both Clarke and Grayson have basically refused to comment on speculation by saying he is contracted to Southend. Neither has said an absolute no.

Grayson is back from his holidays this week so if Blackpool are going to make a bid then things might start to happen before too long.

Having said that Grayson apparently drew up 2 lists of players he was interested in this summer, one for League 1 and another for the Championship. A couple of players have signed elsewhere recently that we have been linked with and in both cases we didn't follow-up initial enquiries, so presumably they were on the League 1 list.

Who knows which list Clarkey is on? Word is he talked to Grayson at the second leg of our play-off semi so it could be either.

Having said what I did, I also think he'd much prefer to be maybe part of a promotion winning campaign rather than fighting against relegation - and maybe being relegated - for the second season running, which is likely going to be happening at Blackpool.

Belgrave didn't help himself there though by screaming out that the ref (Mr Singh IIRC) was a f*****g c**t.
