Cian Bolger to miss 2 weeks with shoulder injury

I still think prosser should start over others anyway, proved himself last season and is more than up to the task of league one football.

Got to be prosser, least he will know who he is playing beside. Key thing when it comes to defences is knowing each others weaknesses and covering for eachother. Wouldn't want someone who hasn't had at least a weekday training with the team to come straight in

I don't doubt prosper could play in league 1, or I don't doubt his commitment, I just think his so weak in the air compared to Bolger and this could effect us. One of Bolgers best attributes is his Ariel ability and I think he plays well along side Barrett - Hope the injury isn't to serious.
i would still start Prosser on Saturday tho, well the we don't have much choice lol

Phil Brown could put John White at CB allowing Lenny to go at RB. This would allow someone like Wordsworth/Payne to slot into the existing midfield. I do not think this would weaken the overall strength of the team based on last nights performance

If I was Prosser and |I didn't play Saturday I would seriously have to consider whether to stay here any longer.

Prosser weak in the air, really- you are joking surely ?

Even with Prosser we still need another body in defence, if he or Barrett were to get injured what would we do? Dan Matsuzaka? He's only 17. Bradford signed Reece Burke on loan from West Ham yesterday, someone like that would be good.

Prosser is good in the air, IMO. That's his strength. He probably would be upset, but I think the defence would have a better balance with JW at CB and Lenny at RB. We have an abundance of good centre midfielders to pick from.

The pro and anti Prosser posters on here are pretty evenly balanced. What none of us have been able to do is to watch Mr Prosser play 4/5 games as a starting Central defender in FL1 so that we can then comment from 1st hand experience of him.

We may or may not get a replacement for Bolger, but we do have Prosser and I say play him from the start and let's see what he's got.

I know it wont happen but I almost want him and Barrett to play together, but swap sides at half time. That way the match reports/comparisons will be better balanced

re watching him, we don't need to do that , before a ball is kicked some have got their match report re his distribution written already- it will be worse than anyone elses with countless hoofs- regardless of what actually happens

Yup, agree with this. Surely he has to play even if we do get someone else in. Like said above if someone came in today and started ahead of him then that would be it for me personally.

Prosser deserves his chance anyway, he's put his body on the line for the team several times last season and only got out the team because of getting injured for the cause.

I agree too, but who would join us on loan just to warm our bench?

Agree that Prosser deserves to start, but Brown won't play two left sided centre backs. It won't happen. If he fails to get his right sided centre back on loan, White will move across with Leonard at right back.

Southend United centre back Cian Bolger ruled out for at least two weeks, Luke Prosse

SOUTHEND United centre-back Cian Bolger has been ruled out for a minimum of two weeks with a shoulder problem.

What do John Terry, Gary Cahill and Kurt Zouma when do when they kick a ball? Simples, they stand on the left and kick with the right. If José is happy to have three centre backs that are all right footed, then it's probably ok to have two left footed ones at Southend.

If we get someone in then I'd play the better player - whether that's Prosser or someone new. Personally I don't think Prosser is L1 class and there isn't space for sentimentality or blind loyalty.

I'd love Sokolik to come back in, because he'd also provide right back cover/competition.

You may well be right, but how will we know for sure unless we see him playing? I don't know about you, but I haven't watched FL1 for some while so I just don't know enough about the overall quality to decide one way or another.

I do want Sokolik back by the way, and if he did come it would probably be Prosser that got the chop.

We've seen enough of him in L2 and he didn't really stake a claim as a first choice CB. Personally I was surprised we offered him a new contract. He's fine as a backup and if Bolger was out for a game then fine, but I'd be very concerned at a Barrett/Prosser partnership being anything more than just temporary.

However if Prosser gets a chance then I'll be behind him and hopefully he can prove a few people wrong.

Im happy for Prosser to play but I agree, he couldnt hold down the position two years running in League Two. Yes he had injuries but if he was good enough he would have found his way back in the side.

If Barrett gets injured Im sure he will feature more, but I dont think he will replace Bolger on his unnatural side. A game or two as cover is fine, doubt he will do it long term though.
