Christmas Telly

Is is me, or has it been absolutely dire this year?

Doctor Who was average at the very least - ok, interesting twist at the end, but the Master flying around like a superhero was ludicrous.

Soaps - don't get me started. I can't see why people watch some dreary, soul crushing crap. Cancer, murder, affairs....happy Christmas y'all.... :nope:

The only bright spots were The Royle Family - absolutely brilliant as usual - and Gavin & Stacey.

As for Boxing Day....was there anything on at all? I had to restrain myself from throwing a cold turkey at the telly when those irritating geordie ***** were on the telly. Light entertainment circa 1974. :puke

Its appalling every year. Same old crap films, the depressing Eastenders, endless repeats.
FWIW thought Dr Who was good, Royle Family ok but not as good as previous years.
Thank god for footy on boxing day and today, and of course the countless dvds I have to watch.

Have watched very little, I really don't watch a lot these days at all! So I'm hoping we don't get a load of tv questions on Eggheads! What have I seen? Well, the last 2 Ronnies Christmas Special and one of the Santa Clause movies......plus a bit of Corry Orry.

I was away so I didn't see a lot on the day, I Sky+ Dr Who which was ok, The Royle Family which was good, and Catherine Tate which I gave up on. I just despair of "comedians" using the f word and thinking howhilarious and clever it is.

Yesterday TV wise was a write off.

It's a sad indictment of Christmas tv schedules when the channel that Chipper has put on more than any other has been Dave. Closely followed by Dave ja vu. Then after that the radio.

It's been a diet of inane soap operas or endless repeats of average films and mediocre imported dramas on terrestrial and satellite. If I wanted festive viewing to be the same as the rest of the year I would have written to Points Of View. Or my MP. Whoever is the sexiest.

Have to agree about DR Who , but then RTD is writing it (yes thaks for brining it back nolw can you stop messing it up ) but we wait on Part 2

The best thing so far for me has been Hamlet on BBC (with DT and Patrick stewart and an amazing cast , how else can you watch 3 hours of Shakespeare and not get bored )

Victoria Wood and Royale family best comedy so far.

I loved Dr Who, thought it was completely mad.

And Hamlet was fantastic. Though not as good as seeing it live. But at over 3 hours it's very long. Wonder how many people feel asleep in it!

TV, Royles and Gavin and Stacey aside, has been *****. Which led me out of the house to go watch Avatar in 3D. It more than made up for the lack of good TV.

Not sure you could it was that energetic . Live would have been amazing but try getting a ticket for it no chance (its why the recorded it)

Dr Who was a load of melodramatic, cringeworthy, derivative tosh (IM not very HO). Is the Master the Emperor from Star Wars with his crackly lightening hands and his jumpy skills? How silly was the Timothy Dalton voiceover? How unconvincing was that cactus headpiece? Could the music have been any louder (or more naff?). I like Russell T Davies but he lost the plot with that one. The only redeeming features were having John Sims as everyone on earth at the end and the Time Lord twist. I'm not sure I'll bother with the second episode.
Loved Cranford though, and looking forward to The Day of the Triffids. Gavin and Stacey was OK - wouldn't rave though.
