Good to have a Southend legend back. Him and Dean Austin would be in my all time best Shrimpers team. Good luck to Chris, a great bloke, as long as he can keep us up this season I'm sure everyone will be happy. Will be very interested to see the lineup on Saturday and more importantly to see the level of commitment.

So who will be his no 2 ? Does maher want it or will Dean Austin come in ?

If it's Dean Austin then the whole Jack Bridge saga will be a farce, Dean Austin being the one at Northampton that wanted him and then a few weeks later Dean Austin comes to Southend and Bridge is at Northampton.

I'm so happy. I've recently quit a job that kept me away from Roots Hall for over a decade and Saturday was always going to be my first trip back. (Well, third technically, but let's not spoil the narrative). The timing is magnificent.

To those who doubt Powell, let me assure you that he is absolute steel underneath all that charm. And this should not be seen as a sentimental appointment, we're talking about a man who got Charlton promoted when they were in a right mess and who would have stabilised them in the second flight had he not had his legs cut from under him by the new owners. Huddersfield have been incredible under David Wagner, absolutely incredible, like, once in a lifetime stuff. Powell actually had that team exactly where you'd expect them to be.

He's a hugely experienced and respected coach, he's precisely the sort of man you want developing the youngsters and most of all, precisely the sort of man you want representing the club.

I can only echo the wise words of Yorkshire Blue. This will take time. I've seen a lot of this division this season and we could easily go down. Avoiding relegation is the aim. Then slowly building something sustainable, something that gives us the foundation for when (if) all the other stuff ever comes together.

But this is a glorious, glorious day and I'm very excited. If I'd know this was going to happen, I'd have quit my job ages ago...

Welcome back Slipper......

Welcome home Chris, one of my favorite Blues players of all time. Always gave 100% when I saw him, great appointment by Uncle Ron...I hope Deano is with him as well! UTB's:happy:

I will be happy finishing 20th and then move on to 2018/19 season. A pre-season where the manager concentrates on getting a settled squad and not wasting time searching the internet for 30 budget flights for a jolly-up in Marbella would be good news as well.

You're all getting wet Y fronts. All Because CP is a legend and he is. I hope you all don't expect too much because I can see this ending in tears.

But if despite his best efforts we do go down I hope he is not hung out to dry. A heavy onus is still on the players and if they can be bothered to step up or not.
