Yeah the name just came to me, have seen his name mentioned but haven't been around for a few days so didn't know anymore than that.

Shame really as from what I hear Barker is a class act and it looks like he could be available too as it says on the PAFC site that Reid doesnt want him.

Could we afford him? Would he come permanently? Would he be happy to fight for a 1st team place (similarly Peter Gilbert)? Would fans be happy to see Herd go?

I think the answer to all of those is 'no' which is probably a shame.

A genuine Championship player, I'm pretty surprised he's the calibre of player we're able to bring in just to cover injuries. But having brought in Gilbert, there's no real point of keeping him here longer than the month, it wouldn't be a wise use of resources.

I was listening to Talk Sport yesterday where Alvin Martin was discussing Steve Cotteril as having the worst job in football by managing Portsmouth and they said this is closely followed by the Southend manager's job!

Looking forward to this, Josh Simpson's loan, and the other 14 players becoming Southend United players tomorrow. Team photo is certainly going to look better this time around.

Not as yet as we are still under an embargo.

Whilst you can announce pre-contract signings, there isn't such a thing as pre-loan agreement. Whilst all parties can agree the move, which I think is what has happened with Barker, Plymouth and Southend, nothing is set in stone due to the embargo. As soon as its removed, which should be tomorrow, expect to see that and Josh Simpson's loan confirmed.
