I have also seen it in arcades as "King of Boxer" and it was a Jap boxing game with quite cartoony graphics, but until Fight Night R2 came out, I thought it was the best boxing game ever made!
was that the one were your boxer was a sort of wire framed green thing you could see through.? and you fought glass joe to begin with..? had a big red 'upper cut' button

That would be Nintendo's Punch Out released in 1984.

I loved this game - I used to pump in the 20p pieces when I saw it in the arcades. Perhaps I just liked ramming other cars off the road....

Probably my favorite arcade racing game is Daytona USA, though. Especially when there are 8 other people playing against you...

'Uppercut', 'Uppercut', 'Body Blow', 'Right Hook'
biggrin.gif
Or once you'd got past the easy oppenents 'Get up, get up'

My own speciality was Track 'n Field and I was the mutts nuts at it ! I always used to end up with a blistered finger though.

Galaxian and Space Invaders were well worth the 10p though. For some reason Defender and Pac Man both got the better of me.

When Track and Field came out on Commodore 64 I had to have it. What a heap of s%&te ! I seem to remember one of the events was either a 400 or 1500m which I just found impossible.

What was the Star Wars type thing where you had to sit down in a cubicle and line the targets up in the middle of the screen before blasting them. No doubt it was called Star Wars ?

i think i only ever got past the second boxer once..
track and field was excellent  prefered the one with he toggle/lever hing rather than the buttons..

missile command.. if you could spin the ball and perfectly place 15 odd shots accross the top of the screen taking out the whole first wave..

lunar lander.. the speakers made the whole cabiniet/case vibrate

Track & Field. Great in the arcade for those nimble of finger yet never really worked in the home environment.

The classic star wars box that you sat in that ORM mentioned is one i'd forgotten but was bloody great.
Funny that everyone remembers pumping 10 and 20p's in the machines, bloody things cost about 2 quid a throw now.

no wise cracks about my injuries though

There was a karate game I used to play around the 84-85 era. Basically it was two guys sparring in different locations (on a log, in dojo, on board a ship etc).

The controls were two levers (eg pull both down to crouch).

Every so often there'd be a bonus screen which involved smashing tiles or hitting bulls (I kid you not!)

Anyone else remember this - it was a classic!!!!!!!!!

Now that would be a game called Karate Champ.

Check it out at the Coin-Op museum -->

I still remember a certain drunken morning/afternoon spent at the Broker in Leigh after the Brazil game in WC 2002, the look on your face when we walked in and they had a Galaxian machine in the corner. Needless to say we didn't see much of you for about 3 hours!

For once I'm with ORM on this one, Track & Field was an all time great.

Double Dragon & WonderBoy were always favourites when down the seafront

As Mr Plow correctly stated the game is Karate Champ.

I used to play it a lot in the Clements Hall cafeteria back in the mid eighties.

I was lucky enough to go on a jolly to Las Vegas last week and one of the events my firm laid on was to hire the local arcade for the night, provide free drinks and put all the machines on free play.

I managed to find a corner with all the classics:

Defender
Robotron
Moon Patrol
Pac Man
Xevious
Galaga
Galaxians
Phoenix
