Chip shop arcade games

Go to any chippy in the U.K and you face many a familiar sight.
Pickled onions in a jar, big sheets of paper to wrap the food in, a dodgy local calender on the wall and the greatest tradition of them all.......an arcade machine.

What was your favourite?

1942 wins for me.
20p used to buy me about 10 mins of spitfire mayhem, i spent all my paper round money on the bloody thing.

Our chippy alternated between 'Rastan Saga' (side scrolling hack-em-up) or the absolute legend that is 'WWF Wrestlefest' which used to mean chips just about every meal of the day!!!

Still play Wrestlefest now on the macMame emulator

actually i think it was called battle zone not tank commander.. and thinking back a bit more it was pretty s%&te.... put me down for space invaders as well.. or maybe defender (well for the 6 seconds untill i used up all my smart bombs)

yeah many a 20/30p went missing on Wrestlefest. I still get excited to this day when you see Earthquake jump and down when he goes his finisher.

Perth, as I said on another thread on here Capcom are releasing a retro package with a lot of their old arcade hits, 1942 and 1943 are on there.

Wrestlefest was a classic, my chippy had Ghouls and Ghosts, and I chucked many a 20p in that. I even completed it once - I was so proud, as it was ******* hard!

Galaxian / Galaga
Davy Jones Locker (supreme champions Easy Meals chippy opp. Chalkwell Pk)
Defender
Missile Command
Asteroids
Battlezone
Tempest
Phoenix

I have a MAME CD which is still well-used and I'm still fecking the db's at Galaxian!!

I think it was called Intruder Alert

.

As for the retro games, i played a disc with some of these titles and i found them totally disappointing. Games have come so far that they reveal all the golden oldies' weaknesses.

Cheers for the advice though Kenny.
Are you still hanging around toilets in cardiff???

I still love playing "Super Mario Kart" and "Striker" on the Super Nintendo.

Play "Striker" followed by Pro Evo and you will see just how far games have come in a relatively short space of time.

I played MarioKart the other day, it's still great fun and the graphics don't look too bad next to todays games as they were supposed to be cartoony anyway.

Thanks to the magic of Emulators and Broadband I was able to play pboreham at it online. Many a red shell was fired up his rear end that night I can tell you (ooo-er!)

Berzerk.

It has to be Defender for me, preferably without loads of fag burns on the control panel.

Its true I'm afraid, I've been spun by Kennys big red missle too many times...

I'll tell ya a classic game that I used to spend a tonne on and thats "Ring King" (no, not a nickname for Kenny!)

I have also seen it in arcades as "King of Boxer" and it was a Jap boxing game with quite cartoony graphics, but until Fight Night R2 came out, I thought it was the best boxing game ever made!

'Brown Pants' was a complete ******* to beat!

Other notible old school classics...

Kung-Fu Master
Karate Champ
Chase HQ
Power Drift (cabinet was a sit and tilt jobby!)
APB
Smash TV

All quality games and shows that all the fancy graphics of today at times cannot match the playability of a good game....

What was the platform scroller involving kung-fu?
You played a Bruce Lee look-a-like in a mansion, you had the option to kick high or low or to punch only.
Lines of enemy's used to run at you in 4's and 5's.

In the second level you had to kick or avoid kunf-fu stars

That was Kung-Fu Master if that is what you mean...

You could do a high kick and scream "HEE-YA!"
