Look guys, were going through a very rough patch at the moment, but lets not get too downheartened. Last time we got relegated, we got relegated and then relegated again, so seriously, take a reality check people, did you seriously expect us to bounce straight back up again? With us losing eastwood at the start of the season, and not getting a decent replacement in, did anyone really expect us to be up the top making a massive impact on the league? No. I didn't think many of you do. I know most of you would have taken mid-table safety at this time in the season... but still theres people moaning and groaning about results this year. Yes, it's dissapointing; but it's not unexpected is it?

Yes - our defence isn't defending as well as possible, and yes most of our strikers can't shoot for toffee, but it's not like were rooted to the bottom of the championship, is it? We're mid-table of League One. We're creating chances most games and all we need is someone to poke them into the back of the net; and given time, I think MacDonald will be just the man do that. All he needs is for the boo-boys to get off his back and let him get on with it.

Confidence is low in the camp, and the only way for that to improve is for results to improve, but we can't moan about the position of the team. We've had some great results, and some 'not so' great performances, but if it was all happy-go-lappy why arn't we top of the prem with £50m to splash around. Poor performances and bad results are all part of the package, and being a fan of SUFC, you have to take it. I for one would prefer us to lose some matches than win every match. If I wanted to be a winner every match, I'd go and support a team like Manure or Chelski.

Tilly is still a NEW manager; he's only been in the managerial game for a few years now and is STILL LEARNING. How many of you could possibly do a better job than him? Seriously? Not many of you - and I can be assured of that. So what gives you the right to critise what is happening and why he's doing it? He knows, better than anyone else, how well the team works behind the season. He knows how the players are performing during training, what their attitude is like and how well their progressing. He's on a string-tight budget and people are moaning he can't bring in decent players. Could you bring in decent players on a string-tight budget? The people who he had brought in have all got different things they add to the game. Some have been good buys, others havn't been such great buys; but you can't have an amazing buy everytime? Let's go and buy wayne rooney and cristiano ronaldo. We can't go getting those players, because it's physically impossible. Even when the right player for the team comes along it's, just not OK to go and buy them just like that, because you dont want to go breaking the wage structure and making all the other players un happy. Lets see who he gets in during the transfer period, and see who leaves and then re-assess the situation after the transfer period. If nothing positive happens there, then maybe we have a reason to start worrying.

Lets not get on Tilly's back yet. We just need to let this season go past and make sure we stay in this league. I've always said, and will always say that the NEXT season will be the season to judge tilly and how well he's doing. We've just been relegated so we need to get our feet back on the floor and start building again for next season. Many of us at the start of the season would have taken mid-table safety, and I for one am happy where we are at the current time. Yes, we all want the team to perform the way we know they all can, whipping every team in the league, putting 20 goals in every match, each player covering 50,000 yards of the pitch, but it's not going to happen every match. Were going through a rought patch, but it's not the end of the world. Let's not start calling for Tilly's head yet.

Lets get behind the boys against Bristol Rovers on NYD!! Heres to 3 points and a more successful year next year!!

Blimey, you had 3 shredded wheat this morning...

3 corners and 3 goals....thats quite a bit worse than "basic defending". I was round my mum and dads today and it was becoming the in joke everytime we heard Donny get a corner on the radio.

That is simply not good enough. Schoolboy errors cost us again in defence as much as lack of finishing cost us in other recent games. We will win nothing unless we start bucking our ideas up in both areas.

great post..

all is right there..

i have to say that at the start of the season i thought that we could be up near the top and most games where we have lost this season [most at home] I have believed that we were just not as good as we could be on the day. But there are some great teams in this league, especially at this level, and I suppose that we do just have to step back and see that wer'e not the best team here. However I'd like to see us get behind the blues and for them to play to their best potential, which could just get us right back up there..

Up The Blues

Full backs on the post is NOT advanced defending!

Oh Lord - help me.........

Wasn't suprised at the result today as not many teams will walk away with 3 points from donny .

Pleased to see the Charlie scored , but still a little worrying that we shipping in the amount of goals we are , do we need a shake up in between the sticks or are the centre halves to blame , or are the midfield not giving the back 5 enough cover or are the full backs letting to many balls into the box?????

Unfortunatly from what i have seen this season it is a combination of all of them, and Tilly has got a bit of a job on his hands to get all of them sorted , after the run we have had i can see him making a few changes in the coming weeks and lets just see if that is some improvement in what he does.

Not unduly surprised at today's scoreline. Let's hope we can get a result like we had last New Year's Day on Tuesday. Onwards and upwards....hopefully!

Im sorry Tilson is not a new manager any more, and he hasnot learnt from past errors, however his number two Brush has to take equal blame in tactics ,selections, transfers and subs. We are in trouble if you have seen us play regular this season, thread bear squad, a bench that it seems the manager has no confidence otherwise changes would be made sooner.

We donot have time for Tilly learning curve any more, and we are in danger of slipping down the league if we continue in this rich vein of form, it doesnot matter how much we say we were unlucky the fact is the defence needs a shake up, and we badly need a striker to bang in 15 goals regular

We can blame any number of players or positions, but at the end of the day the buck stops with Tilson, I donot believe in getting rid of him, but people need to take off the rose tinted gLAsses when talking about him

Whether the chairman will release more funds is debatable, especially if the £ 200 k transfer for Leon is true, the players he buys he has to stand by, and thats the problem, he has built this squad with his players and they are not working

-Christ I'm getting ****ed off with this rose tinted glasses crap every time we lose. For ****'s sake Tilson at least knows the score. Build a team with little money. It very difficult. Basically find lower league players who hopefully will make the grade. He's got a gem in Bailey. Some work some don't. The only rose tinted fans are those who expect miracles. And 3 points at Donny. You're having a laugh surely.

If he had a stronger bench, would sub's be made any sooner though? He is still a new manager, and he is still learning. I bet Fergie didn't instantly win the fans over with his perfectly timed subs and his near on perfect tactics that outplayed the opponents. He had to learn it and it took him a long time. Same with Tilson. It doesn't just come to you like that. I'm not doubting his bad tacticts, player selections and transfers, but I think we should wait until next year at the earliest, to really judge how he's doing and what we should do then.

Every mangager takes time, and so does tilly. If managers didn't take time to learn, how would be the big teams have the best managers? They've been in the business for ages and know exactly what to do now etc. In my eyes, were in no danger of being relegated, and I think we should totally bypass this season, and make sure we are ready for next season. Lets see who Tilly brings in during the transfer period, to see if he shake up the defence or not. And scoring goals isn't the problem, so I don't think we need to worry about getting a 15-goal-a-season striker in. We need to concentrate leaking the soppy goals, from set pieces.

Nobodies perfect, but he's bought so much to this club already; he's a legend in people's eyes and some people see no wrong in him. He can do wrong but I think he can only get better over time. You can blame Tilly as much as you like, but he chooses the team that most of us would pick with the players available, and then it's there fault if they fail to perform. Yes, it's Tilly's fault to an extent, but it's not ALL down to him.

And given time, I'm sure they'll start to perform. Ship out some of the dead wood such as harrold and free up the wages a lil' and maybe, just maybe we might start to see a couple of more old experieced players coming in ?

Too true.

Rose tinted spectacles are worn by those that believe that we can just spend the Freddy, JCR etc money Willy Nilly on more players who may or may not do well. We are in Debt at this club. We cannot stump up the kid of money that you clearly think we possess.

There are no strikers who will score 15 goals in this league who we can afford to buy, afford the wages of and will want to come here. We are not a big club and have no right to be at the top of the league or in the league above.

In regards to the manager name me one manager that could take this club, being paid what we pay, forward on our budget. Name me one manager with as much success at this level as Tilson? Name me one manager who would continue to look to youth and have a long term plan for this club and not put our integrity and future in the balance? Name me a manager who cares as much for this club as we do?

Thats thats sorted then.

For goodness sake, when we have a new stadium and we're struggling at the foot of this division criticise the manager. Why now when we're on our way up as a club, or be in it in a little slump at the moment.

Let's stop these type of crap posts, glossing over it. Something needs to be done, all is not right, we are struggling in an inferior league. Stop trying to mak excuses, the boys "didn't work hard." They weren't unlucky, they were ****. And if tilson can't tell them, someone needs too.

It's all about feelings though isn't it? You have a go at them then you're being insensitive and un-pc. Footballers have to be wrapped in cotton wool these days and told they're perfect! That's why Fergie's such a breath of fresh air with his "hairdryer" approach - maybe Tilly should adopt something similar with those that really do warrant such treatment!

I have full faith in him, just wish he'd get a bit more involved in the warm ups these days as they all seem to be led by PB. The shooting exercise has all but disappeared.

I like the way we assume Tilson does not have a go at the players and is trampled all over. From what i've heard this is anything but the case. For example, Ricketts shown the door, Gilbert not been played since he spoke out etc. These are big name players and Tislon showed them whos boss. What managers say to the press and what is said at training, in the dressing room and on the touchlines is completely different.

I know people who grew up with Tilly in Wickford and believe me he is no push over and i have played against the man and know plenty who have as well and he is no mug and can defo handle himself , add to that Brushy as well , i can't see these 2 being taken for a mug though .

Harrold for example is probably a top lad who gives everything in training and is willin g to listen and learn so Tilly gives him more than one or two chances , lads like Ricketts ,Gilbert etc who think they are the bees knees and can just stroll around the pitch will get no sympathy from them .

That is not tillys down fall , the one major downfall is that he is at a relativly small club who pay small wages and is expected to punch with the big boys.

Yes he has made mistakes and yes some of his buys have been a litle questionable , but name me a manager who hasn't ???

Alex Ferguson - Quinon Fortune , Jordi Cruyff , Masimo Tiabi to name a few

Brilliant post. The way people talk on here, we wouldnt know that we are in the process of getting a new stadium, a few points off the play offs and have just spent 200k on a new player. Hopefully everyone will get behind the team on 1/1 and make TBV day a real success on and off the pitch!!

A few more points off the play-offs as each week passes. Please let us not gloss over the fact that we cannot and have not been able to defend set-pieces all season, and do not score enough goals to compensate for these failings. We are having a poor season in what is a predominantly poor league.

As for the 200k player, not sure what has happened with Clarke since he returned from suspension, but he has strolled around the pitch nonchalantly, and has developed the touch of an elephant of late...not sure whether his body language demonstrates flippancy or whether he is simply frustrated with his form. Whatever the case may be, he was utter toilet today, as were most of the team.

Liked the way he just went down the tunnel today when he got subbed. Nice attitude. Played like he couldnt give a toss today anyway

Why sign him then?

Isn't it safer to pull out of the deal and save the money for a better player with a more proffesional attitude?

What's he done the last few games as well?
