Cheering and Chanting onto the Championship

Lucas D

First XI
After seeing the other threads on this subject, I think its a poor show that our away support is better then our home support. That really shouldn't be the case. I for one have noticed how bland the east stand can be and about 95% of the people sitting in the east will rather just sit there, rather than sing and cheer on their team.

Just an idea...... I think it would be worth while for the club to organise blocks of seats for the 'noiser' fans.

It wouldn't be a bad idea for someone within the club (or not) to gather a list of names on who would want a noise only block! Then fans wanting to sing and shout can sit in these blocks without being frowned at and viewed upon as a 'nutter'. This is so important and the singing really motivates the players.
I just feel that more should be done to create more of an atmosphere at the Hall.

Any thoughts?

Yes , the North End of the West ( some may say that is the case already) or lower South to the right.

i think the difficulty is recognising that the majority of people going to games dont wanna chant and sing all the way though the game, including my parents and their friends, who prefer to sit and enjoy the game than scream and sing at every opportunity. organising noiser sections sounds good but im not sure how effective it would be, people chose their seats for many different reasons. I would love to see some drummers at RH, i think they can really get an atmosphere going.

Don't really see why they can't designate the South as a sit where you want stand.

Surely with our all singing all dancing state of the art ticketing system it's not difficult to know when the stand is sold out. Why does there have to be a sit to designated seat number policy in place? Before anyone says "it's because of the seaso's" I feel that if the club said to them from next year it will be sit where you like the negativity of people put out would be minimal.

If FF (or any other new ground) does come off, I really hope at least one or two blocks will be run like this.

i disagree with this statement! Having been a season ticket last year (unfortunately i could not get one this year due to being at uni) and one of the things that i liked about being a "seaso" is the fact that i was always guaranteed my seat week in week out. There was no worry that if i got stuck in traffic my seat would not be there!

It's a strange one, this, because the atmosphere at the Hall was pretty good for most of last year. I agree with the comment about drummers, and last year we had some but wherever they go there's always someone who complains and tells them to get lost.... so they disappeared.

I like to have a good sing at football but most of the time even the north west (near where I sit) is silent now.

Unfortunatley under this football licensing thing if you so much as stand up to sneeze you are liable to be thrown out for being a danger to football. I sit in the east stand reds and sit extremely quietly through the whole game(just in case anybodys checking) execpt of course for the odd word with the lino, the referee and to tell any Walsall player how bad they are, which I do sitting down oh I dont stand up not me no way cant stand up in the ground its against the law dont you know.

But if it was only a certain number of blocks you still would be basically in the same seat (I'm thinking from a FF perspective here), remember there would still be a seat for you in there somewhere as you would have a ticket for that block!

The West has a much better atmos than the East.

I think you'll find 99% of League clubs are more vocal away than at home though, thats just the way it is. Probably due to variety more than anything.

i've been to a few championship games this year with my mate who is a stoke fan and one thing i have noticed which is different to the lower division is the atmosphere generated by the home fans, be it because there is usually 10,000+ at most grounds but they seem to be able to generate a vey loud atmosphere, something which lacks at most grounds you go to in the lower divisions so IF we do go up i think singing sections would be a something to consider, or maybe trial it for a few games to see if it could boost the noise and more importantly shut the away fans up.

The average attendance for the Championship this season is about 17,500 so 10,000 more than we are getting now. So there is bound to be a better atmosphere.

From what I hear the atmosphere for the Beam Back against Col******r was better than most home games this season.

Lets really try and get behind the team on Friday.

One thing that was promised with the new ground was we are going to have a stand with a roof which does allow for a better atmosphere and RM said that he hopes everyone would go in there and hopefully that will spread the atmosphere around the ground! Thats what is desperately needed.

I think this a good idea, but it's probably too late to do anything at Roots Hall. Everyone has thier own favoutite area now and probably wont want to move - I know I wouldn't.

An absoloute must for the new stadium mind.

I think if people want to sing they should move round to the West stand W and V blocks, that is where the noisiest lot can be found and this area when full creates a hell of a noise.

So there you go, this is a rallying call...

All singers to West V and W block for Fridays game

You've got to be careful here. If a "singing section" is to be designated then, no matter what you may think, you HAVE to sit down and sing. The danger is that a singing section will stand, defiant of the club and the stewards, and therefore incur the wrath of the local authorities and the FLA. I can't see it working. Too many people would flout the ground regulations and create a new division between club and fans. And how would that look as we move into a new era for the club?

get some bar staff or stewards to go round the stand selling alcoholic drinks, like they used to do at the cinema with ice cream n lollys. that'll get everyone goin!!

I think its a top idea, Ive said before how poor the atmosphere is at Roots Hall and this has been noticed by away supporters. More Vocal support would lift the team no question. Presumably with the permission of the club and relevant advertising its worth a crack?

But wasn't this already suggested by the SUSCT?

Back in November 2003 the Trust asked the club to consider a desiganted area "for those fans who wish to sing and chant and play drums and other musical instruments" and suggest the East Blacks as a possible area. Geoffrey King was warm to the idea but suggest that the South Lower would be a better place. A month later the Trust reported that fans had felt that the acoustics in the South Lower were not good enough and that the view was poor therefore fans wouldn't congregate there. They reported that "the idea was not dead but being re-considered". There's been nothing since.

Basically, forget about an authorised singing section in the West; at the time the club was offering the South Lower and that's all. I can't see them changing their mind ...

Not much chance of the South Lower being a singing section now either. Most of that area is now part of the Family Stand and has been sold out for the past 3 games and will be sold out for the last 6 games of the season.

We will just have to make as much noise as we can in our own sections.

The whole ground can get behind the team and make a noise. We did last season so lets start again on FRIDAY.
