Che Wilson

Don't get me wrong, Che was a solid player for us 100% effort etc but we have moved on as a Club since the likes of Che Wilson, Carl Pettefer, Mark Bentley etc.

All of them did well for us, and are solid pro's but none of them have the ability to be playing in a side thats aim is to reach the Championship.

Could have done with Bentley in our midfield over the past couple of months, and besides as you said the aim is build a team to GET us promoted, for which Bentley & Wilson proved they were good enough. Once promoted I agree we should be looking more upmarket but lets get there first..

they didn't just win promotion, they won the League title.

Benno fair enough is a good player at that level and added some steel and presence that we lack.

Che is my book was poor from day one to the end. Great servant and wish him all the well but if the sum total of all our efforts over the past few years is to re-sign a player who cant defend, cant pass and cant use his weaker foot then i fear for us.

I fully understand your point about not resigning, however, to say that Che couldn't pass, defend or use his weaker foot is a little harsh. Che is naturally right footed so was actually playing out of position, I also thought his distribution from the back was excellent (on his weaker left foot) !! I agree that the Championship was a step too far but don't forget he had the little orange man Nicky Nicolau breathing down his neck for his place and managed to see him off

But two of those three played almost every week in a team that won promotion to the championship.

But we as a team, and the League itself has moved on.

The League back then didn't have the likes of Leeds and Leicester City in it back then.

Don't get me wrong, all the 3 players did brilliant for us but they are limited footballers.

That's right we only had to compete against former double champions of all europe, Nottingham Forest, in order to win the league.

The league may have moved on, but as pointed out earlier, we won it with the likes of Bentley and Wilson in the team. Now, with supposedly better players, we're 14th.

Also, how can a player be described as brilliant but limited. Surely it's one or the other, not both.

I'll grant you Forest, but Leeds and Leicester City have both been better against us then Forest was.

But winning the League had a lot to do with the momentum we carried over from the League Two play-off win. Plus the league, in many peoples eyes, was weaker back then.

I didn't describe him as brilliant, I said he did brilliantly for us. 2 cup finals and 2 promotions isn't a bad return from a player but as a player he is very limited, hence why he didn't make much of an effort to keep hold of Che, Bentley or even Gray for that matter when we went up to the Championship.

Unfortunately the facts don't bear out your opinions.

That year we beat Forest at home, but lost away. This year we've beaten Leeds at home, but lost to Leicester away.

Who are these people that think the league was weaker back then?

Che was kept after we went up, if you recall, and in my opinion we should have retained both Gray and Bentley.

We certainly never replaced Gray's pace, and Bentley might have been a better bet than playing Clarke and Hunt in midfield. Of course, this is just my opinion.

The vast majority on here where of the agreement that the league we won was in fact a weak one.

Remind me not to read your book.

Che?
Unbeatable in the air, strong in the tackle, simple passer who rarely gave it away and the lad had the heart of a lion.
The regular left-back who played in a double promoted side and still he gets slated, jeeeez.

Anyway,he scored against the scum so he has to be worshipped.

Che's positional sense was very good but when he faced a decent winger he got torn to shreds time and time again.
