I thought Wright got better as the second half went on, and if he wants to sign, and he isn't too expensive, I agree that he should be offered a years contract.

I don't agree that he would start at left back instead of Che though - Che is a better defender, but Wright would bring much needed competition in that position.

You can't have too many good players....

Completely agree. Who knows what the season holds so the more good players the better. Just hope tilly doesn't just go out and buy a Ryman League quality player just to fill the gaps. But guess it rises the question is quality but than quantity?

I don't think Tilly will go and buy poor players just to fill gaps, his record in the transfer market is excellent, and if the reports are anything to go by this Jozic fellow is another promising player. I'm assured in my belief that Tilly will only sign a player if he believes they can cut it at this level, be they back up or first XI.

Josic was outstanding. IMHO, better than Barrett last night but I'd guess not one for the bursting from defence runs like Barrett.

Def the replacement for Prior it would seem like. But would like to see more of him as so far we have only played Chelmsford and a very poor Millwall side. Norwich will be a true test of the players.

I do not doubt that Jozic was at Auxerre and played with the likes of Cisse, Mexes, Faye et al, and also Serb 2004 Olympic team.

No disrespect to Southend - but what the hell is he doing here if he has played in that sort of company & competition??

I have not seen him and cannot judge, I just hope that we are not being set up for him to get a move to a higher league club, either here or abroad.

He was at Auxerre. No-one has said he was a first-teamer.

Looking at his age, I would say he was a youth player - much in the same way as Maher at Spurs, Gower at Spurs, Eastwood and Cole at West Ham...

No reason to cast aspersions about his attitude I wouldn't think - it sounds very much like the same situation as the rest of our lads - just in a different country thats all...

I think we do still need to remember that we are a small club and will never be able to hold on to any decent players - more importantly, ones that deserve to be playing at a higher level and show the right attitude - Chris Powell, Stan, Prior etc and probably Fredy if he continues developing.

If Jozic IS that good and stays with us for a year or two then goes on to better things, then we have to accept it, collect the cash and unearth the next gem. Tilly said it himself about Cole - "We keep finding them dont we!"... long may it continue!

Talking of Tilson, I love what he has done for this club in just under two years at the helm and will always feel indebted to Uncle Ron for taking a risk on him and Paul Brush, who I think actually scouts the players we are intending to look at... therefore, Brushie should get the credit for the gems I think.

Millwall were woeful, but such was our display last night, that their fans left with hardly a whimper when Freddy scored our second. I think that speaks volumes about where we are in relation to competing in League 1... however, I do wonder what we would be feeling now, if we met Millwall on another day and they knew what to expect?

As Tilson said on the OS, we need another 3-4 players to be in a position to do well in League 1, but with displays like last night, it inspires confidence that we have a great squad of players already.

Bring on the Vale!!!

Sounds postitive about the Serb, looking forward to see him against Norwich. What sort of attack was he up against, Barry Hales???

I have not cast any aspersions about his attitude, I simply wondered why us when he has played for higher clubs in exalted company.

It has happened before that we have made our interest known or taken a player on trial for that player to be tempted elsewhere - Scott McGleish ring any bells??

He was up against 2 very tall attackers, 1 of about 6'3" and the other at least 6'6".

Were Millwall woeful? I can't decide. They did have some quality there, that was obvious. But we simply didn't allow them to play. We shut them down in their own half so many times... to quote the phrase "we were all over them like a rash".

If we can play like that in the league... well... who knows?

Absolutely, CanveyShrimper - and there's no reason to suggest it couldnt happen again

However I think that is true of any triallist, regardless of their age, experience or background.

To be fair, if we were in Jozic's shoes and someone like Leeds United or Southampton from the Championship decided to offer us first team footy and lots more money, after seeing a few triallist performances for a League Two team - I'm pretty sure I know what we'd all do!

That excludes Southend obviously, as even Chelsea couldn't tempt us away from the pure joy of signing on for the mighty Shrimpers!

My thoughts exactly fbm - and I've said so before a few times.

Some sides in this division will be tough nuts to crack - Bristol City, Tranmere, Nottm Forest, Huddersfield, probably Oldham...

But the majority are nothing to be afraid of - the likes of the Ewes, Walsall, Chesterfield, Blackpool, MK Dons, Scunthorpe, Swansea, Rotherham, Port Vale and Swindon are teams that we should certainly not fear.

As Tilly says, we need 3 or 4 more players to ensure we have enough depth to the squad. However, we've certainly got the quality - I wouldn't bet against a play-off challenge with our current players, particularly if 3 or 4 more of similar quality can be added by the end of August.

Don't get too carried away on the strength of a couple of friendlies. I'm hoping we'll do well and establish ourselves in div 3 but the opposition is going to be much tougher than last year.
