Championship!

just got back

was very impressed with the Serbian centre back looks very composed and will be a pin up for the ladies. Mitchell Cole gave their right back nightmares and took his goal very well. And what a relief to see Jay Smith looked good as new. Also worth mentioning young James Lawton who showed no fear out there - he may be able to stake the 4th striker spot (hopefully we'll get a 3rd striker as well!)

Guttridge had the best game I'd seen him play in a Southend shirt and Gray looked back to his best.

I think Millwall will struggle this season, Bart/Flavs had a quiet evening.

Sounds good.

Any centre back who wears red boots has obviously got confidence.

Thought the Serb was a different class, didn't do a single thing wrong for the whole time, every pass found its target and didn't let the Millwall strikers get anywhere near our goal.

Agree but he should have scored, sitting in the South Upper so had a good view of both his chances, the one where he hit the post he could have got 10 yards closer, and the one he blasted wide was an abosulute sitter.

But he was excellent, always looking for a short 10 yard pass forward into somebodies feet, very simple but also extremely effective and keeps the ball moving in the right direction.

Agree with the blazed chance, hitting the post he saw the poorly position keeper and had a good effort, i didnt have a problem with that 1

To be fair he probably just thought he had more of the goal to aim at from the edge of the box than he would if he had taken it closer and the keeper would have come out

Not sure but I wander if he brandished it outside the ground in full of the travelling support.

JOZIC FOR SERBIA!

Just looking for some 'Jozic Facts' and so far - apart from the great info and pic on TLG, I have found out that he was in the Serbian 2004 Athens Olympic squad...

Also, he played in the same Auxerre team as Djibril Cisse, Philip Mexes, Jean-Alain Boumsong, Amdy Faye and Spurs new signing Teemu Tainio! And as TLG points out, he featured in Auxerre's UEFA cup games...

Get pen to paper Tilly! The new Mike Lapper!

I think the only thing negative that was apparent to everyone last night was our lack of strikers yet we are now very will stocked in defence and midfield. Eastwood was thrown into action late in the first half as Millwall were kicking lumps out of Lawson but Lawson was to return later on after Millwall subbed most of their defence. Lawson looks very keen and eager to impress, much like Kightly was when he first broke though. Although, I would still be a bit concerned about throwing him in at the deep end if anything happens to Freddy or Gray early doors this season.

Highlight of the evening was in the 2nd half, seeing Claridge get worked up and dash down from the directors box to the touchline to scream the their right back - "Stick on Eastwood Davey!" after Eastwood had skinned their defence for about the 15th time.

more like 'kick the crap out of Eastwood Davey!' - he was a shocking excuse for a footballer. I think the only time he actually touched the ball was during the warm-up.

Was this the kind of girly scream he emits when commentating with John Helm on Channel 5?

Totally agree.

Couldn't see any negative points from Jozix's performance last night - good in the air, composed on the deck, two good feet, and being 6'5" will always be a threat at attacking free-kicks and corners.

If, for instance and nothing against Prior, he played alongside Barrett, a corner for us would give more room for AB to attack the ball, as Jozic would take a couple of defenders with him.....

Lawson does have a bit about him, but is only 17/18 and I don't think long-term his position will be up front. I believe he would be better on the flanks - but with the depth we have in the middle of the park, maybe he could get in the team as a support striker to Sir Freddy?
