A large number of Blues supporters work in the building down the street and so you can imagine how difficult this situation is for us. Our colleagues on the whole have been sympathetic whilst still maintaining the view that Inland Revenue are not to blame for us failing to pay off our tax bill. They are right of course but that does nothing to change how sick we all feel at the moment or to stop me wanting to say sorry.

Other clubs have been here though and recovered. Many more I fear are sliding down the slope behind us. The Premiership are not a charity and nor should they be. But that said grabbing all the TV loot for themselves whilst chucking just a few coins in the other leagues direction is unforgiveable. They are killing English football just as surely as the greed of Rangers & Celtic crippled the leagues North of the Border.

Surely the time has come for the authorities who claim to govern English football to step in and distribute the money much more evenly. It may too late to save us, god I hope not, but it may be just the lifeline that some other club needs to survive. And surely that must be much better for the game than watching the TV money just pour into foreign players accounts.

am i the only one who sees the irony of HMRC being based on the same street as Southend united?

HMRC isn't based in Victoria Avenue, just have an office there.

It's times like this working for HMRC* isn't good!

*Disclaimer: I don't work in tax, i work for an in-house support team to detection and criminal investigation.

Good luck SUFC.

Not bothered whether it would be reciprocated in the opposite scenario - I'm sure some of you would love us to go out of business and others would be more realistic - but for me, rivalry has never been about wanting to see the other club go bust.

I think this is a sign of the times and a lot of L1 and L2 clubs will be having similar problems in the very near future. From past experience of these things you're a long way from the worst possible eventuality, but if it were to happen it would be a very sad day for football and if anyone rejoicing at your plight is very short-sighted indeed - it could be them at any time.

Hope we stuff you on Boxing Day, but I would also be pleased if you are financially sorted by then.

Thanks for extending the olive branch, I'm sure the vast majority of us would feel the same as you if the boot were on the other foot

Exactly right sir, it's all about the football at the end of the day and the grass roots supporters. I'd hate to see any of our local sides go under, wouldn't stop the odd gloat at some point I expect, but it's not good for a county like ours to have such little representation in the leagues.

Good luck SUFC.

My thoughts exactly tr0ublegum.

Stick with it Blues fans, there will be a way out of this.

The same support would certainly be reciprocated by the majority here, I've said it often enough, I don't want any fellow club apart from Franchise FC to go belly up. I think your summary about L1 & L2 clubs is right, however I wouldn't be surprised if some bigger (higher) clubs go under.

The only thing I disagree with is stuffing us after the turkey.

Assuming we go into admin next Wednesday, and the adminstator puts the non playing personnel out of a job (like i THINK they MIGHT)

If the money owed is NIC, then since it would already have deducted from the staffs salary. I thought that if somebody had outstanding NIC due against their name (which it would be) they cannot claim any benefits (ie unemployment, pensions etc.) until it is paid.

Cheers, see guys? REAL football fans stand together in troubled times.

And it's not just TG and me here are a few comments from our official m/b, obviously there are some of the other variety as well, but most people are supportive to you the fans. These comments all come from different people.

I love the rivalry and hope they come through this (maybe in League 2 next season)!!
*****************

I feel for Southend because as always when clubs go into administration, the only people that get hurt are the fans. Do I want 6 points off them, absolutely but I don't want them to go out of business.

Good luck Shrimpers... Sadly something tells me you will need it.
****************

The norwich fan is a bit of a T.W.A.T

I would rather see them demise in league two than go bust.

This is not the time to gloat. Hopefully that will be boxing day

*************************

I feel some sympathy for Southend supporters as they are the ones who will lose out the most.

Like most on here, i wish them the best of luck in their financial & legal challenges ahead.

********************
I feel sorry for them just like I do fans of any club facing this situation....I just think about how I would feel if it was happening to a team I support. It's bad news for them but it's terrible news for football on the whole.

*********************
I do feel really sorry for the fans, even if they are our biggest rivals

**********************
Much as I hate Southend I would hate to see them go. Supporting Col U wouldn't be the same without them
***************************
Life wouldn't be the same without Southend alginon1 for all our talk on here. Hope you survive and continue the good rivalry and banter. Good luck.......

I wouldnt want them to go bust much as we dont like each other we are good for each other.

The liquidator, administrative receiver, administrator or Official Receiver has a duty to send the Secretary of State for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform, a report on the conduct of all directors who were in office in the last 3 years of the company's trading. The Secretary of State has to decide whether it is in the public interest to seek a disqualification order against a director. Examples of the most commonly reported conduct are:

  • continuing the company's trading when the company was insolvent;
  • failing to keep proper accounting records;
  • failing to prepare and file accounts or make returns to Companies House; and
  • failing to send in returns or pay to the Crown any tax that is due.
I'm sure recently issued shareholders may be interested in the above.

Terrible news when i heard but i'm not surprised. A weeks extenstion allows us to have extra time to pay off bills. The sale of Roots Hall to Sainbusrys will get us some money. Southend will live on, we need to get behind the team for Friday.

What did we offer?

This has to be 1-0 to Ron though really?

HMRC have backed down slightly, applying for Administration instead of Liquidation and at the same time have given us an extra week to find the funds.

Or Am I reading it wrong?

All points to either a takeover or someone joining the board as a shareholder in return for the required monies. Looks like we'll find out before the weekend...

Well we must of had some sort of case to get the weeks grace, we must of offered something in terms of an offer to HMRC, in terms of what that offer is or was I have no idea

All well and good Paul, we've brought money in. But all of it is still a drop in the ocean compared to what's been written off on the other side. As YB said, we were in trouble then, we're still in trouble now but at least we have plans to move forward.

For years the stadium has been the path to take us away from the breadline we've been living on for so long - to avoid the situations we're now facing. Getting to this stage has cost us an absolute fortune. Casually throw in a global recession and a credit-crunch and life turns that bit more difficult, but for me, it's still something we've HAD to pursue.

Sums it up for me.

Id rather we had this hurdle to get over with a stadium in the pipeline than no stadium.

The stadium and the financial crisis has put us where we are now, but if Ron Martin hadnt pursued it we would still be losing money every year at Roots Hall.

99% of people here were behind the stadium plans and people would have not accepted it if ron Martin 2 years ago had said we are staying at Roots Hall, there will never be any money for players worthy of the Championship and we shall therefore always be in the bottom two leagues.

He has tried to move the club forward and circumstances have screwed us and I wont blame him for that.

He is the top man however so the responsibility for the problems do lay with him but Im not going to be calling for his head for trying....

Great comments from the Col U.................for me this one says it all.

Much as I hate Southend I would hate to see them go. Supporting Col U wouldn't be the same without them

If the shoe was on the other foot, I would feel exactly the same way, it is great to see the rivalry but when push comes to shove we are all part of a big football family.

Cheers you bunch
of in-breads!

:p
