Brought that up  - apparently a warm pie or a 'wizard' hot dog should be OK as a substitue for an evening meal

... "Brought that up" ? .. very apposite.

I never touch the catering at Roots Hall myself so I'm not really in a position to comment much - however I would offer the following couple of comments:

A mate of mine has been a regular at Roots Hall for a couple of seasons although is a lifelong St Mirren fan who has just moved back to Scotland. He once went to the (now closed!) South Lower Tea Bar for a pie about half an hour before KO. They said they'd sold out! He said "Sold Out? It's only 2.30 - how many did you have?" - the reply "SIX!"

Secondly - why don't they let the Supporters Club Trust run the facility in the South Upper? This would also help to relieve congestion at the South Lower and West Side outlets which always have horrendous queues. Even if they only did drinks and Mars Bars - I'm sure they'd do a good trade and would get a bit of dosh into the kitty too.

How do you get there and back within the interval though ?

It's very simple and I don't blame GK for this at all. If people continue to queue and pay for the poo turfed out the club will continue to sell it. You've only got to look at McDonalds (and such like) to realise that people really WILL pay lots of money to throw sh*t down their throats. In addition to this these so called "FAST FOOD" outlets are nothing of the sort.

My guess is that the club are making money but I bet they don't realise that they could actually make much more money. I do not have any observations to make that haven't already been pointed out but

a) Sort the queues out - I bet service times could be doubled without a great deal of effort apart from engaging brain cells

b) Ask the away fans at the next home game what they think about our Catering

c) Instead of sitting in the comfort of Directors seats/boxes at away games spend 10/15 minutes engaging SUFC fans about the catering and aks them why they buy away from home and not at home. Try looking at the range of fare that is typically on offer.

d) Surely we can do much better than Pukka freakin pies. There must be a local butcher that would be prepared to cut the club a deal and occassionally put some real meat inside the pastry. Meat, cheese and veggie pasties wouldn't go amiss either.

e) Bovril, Soup ? enough said ?

For a club that gets 30% of our attendance I found the catering at Macclesfield 300% better than ours.

I've tried to avoid the food for a couple of years now.

last time i tried it the bloke in front of me in the west brought his pie back because he said it wasn't very warm. The staff happily replaced it with another which he then brought back because it had ice in it.

I don't mind paying for decent food. I spent about £15 at kidderminster feeding myself, the missus and the two sprogs. I'd rather have a dozen Mars Bars at Roots Hall.

I find Mr King's stated opinion in the liaision minutes at best complacent at worst insulting, if not just down right ridiclulous.  I say insulting as GK is favourably comparing our catering to other clubs, but has he actually either bothered to eat ours or say, Kiddie, Brizzle etc to make a justified comparison.  Yes, probably in the Board Room where I daresay we may be of similar standard.  But although just idiot football fans to him we know when something's not good.

Like many I used to eat food in the ground.  As GNH says, the bacon roll capacity of our area of the south upper was pretty substantial but suddenly we couldn't make money out of them, despite selling out at most games before 1/2 time.  Then they temporarily stopped the pies as "wastage" was too high.  Too f*cking high!  On more than one occasion I entered the ground at 1/4 to 3 to find they'd sold out.  How the sodding hell can that lead to wastage.  I've beancounted for pub chains in the past & I know the mark up on food, it's far more than many would think.

In addition I know a number of people who've allegedly suffered illness as a result of eating pies, possibly not warmed properly.  In fact I believe one of these now works for the club.  Obviously we can't apportion any blame to the club on this for legal reasons, they must have been supplied as dodgy by the wholesaler.  So what do you do in the ground for food at 3pm, if there is none!  Ask a steward politely if you could just nip out for a prawn sandwich!

As for taking food from the Fish Bar! onto club premises that is a heinous crime & something I would never dream of.  Having said that the club would make far more money by letting the Fish House have a franchise at the new Broomfield Stadium than running the pony operation it currently does.

I'll happily explain the catering facts at Roots Hall to GK & why I don't eat in the ground.  But I suspect he wouldn't want to hear them.  They've known about the problems for years & amazingly seem to have chosen to do nothing!

Found scribbled on a piece of notepaper in the Far Post bar;-

The people who use the executive suite are fed via a train of waitresses running backwards and forwards through the Far Post bar.
I have a scheme where we intercept this process and hold the plate of chips and lemon cheesecake ransom in exchange for a borrow of the microwave hiding in the kitchen to heat our cold pukka pies.
The waitresses take about 15 seconds to walk through the bar unless a hastily arranged Bluebelle selling 50/50 tickets is tasked to swerve him/her over to the window side...we then swoop on two sides and borrow the plate of food whilst handing them a betting slip with our demands.

Viva La Revolution!

I used to buy a burger every game a couple of seasons ago but now it's only an option if I feel faint (i.e. missed every meal of the day so far). The money wasn't really a problem but queuing for rubbish food just isn't something I want to do and I'd rather nip in to the newsagents or Oldham's on the way home to get something to eat.

If they had a Fish and Chip shop brought in at half time, I would be delighted and buy food EVERY game without a doubt.

At the moment, I find you have to get onions on your burger because without them, after doing battle with the sponge buns, your mouth resembles gandhi's flip-flop.

<Snip>

I suggest Geoff tries a day out as a football fan for the Bristol Rovers game. Rather than stroll in at 7:40pm and sit in the directors box, he should try and purchase a ticket for the game and then sit in that seat, buy his own programme rather than be given one. Half-time he should join the queues and try and purchase his refreshments. That way he'll get a real idea of what the issues are as a fan, where there is room for improvement, whether the programme sellers are suitably placed, where costs can be cut and where revenue can be increased.
Spot on. The trust should approach the somewhat self-satisfied Mr. King and propose exactly this. Afterall, they can go to the trouble of putting a plain-clothes steward in the South Upper....

The Trust have proposed that a few directors enjoy the match from various points in the stadium. I think one is happening soon...

Will there be a Trust "Bodyguard" to make sure that the spirit of the experiment is observed? e.g. no prawn-and-cucumber sarnies instead of attempting the home catering?

Now if u want a coke you have 2 pay 1.50 for a large bottle rather than a £1 for a normal size cup.

Also the burgers are the ready made rubbish

Hear Hear!

They were fantastic last year with about seven rashers per roll.
I am already looking forward to mine on Easter Monday.

(No doubt they will have been discontinued )

The club isn't helped by the fact that the Fish House is one of the Best Chippys ever. It really is excellent.
I agree, the fish house is great and always will be!

The catering at Roots Hall needs a total overhaul, and the pricing needs to be looked at!

Its got to the stage where i take a flask of hot drink to each home game! So much more satisfying than those nasty overpriced maxpax styled drinks!

Please, Please, Please sort the Catering out!

Scriv's have a word will you
