Thought fonguck ran it first half. Pleased to see him have a decent game. Wood looks very lively and Pulham looked quite nervous and lightweight. Cracking cross from Taylor and a peach of a header by gus. Although Canvey looked tidy. Couple of rapid lads from their right side second half

I was impressed with Canvey tonight. Thought they looked well prepared and organised. We edged on skill and quality, and we were good for the win, just. We still look like the second game into pre-season, the prep that we should have had has probably gone right out the window. We are a good side, but will be in survival mode till the not very nice gentlemen from Benfleet Road departs the building!

By contrast, Canvey should do well this season.

Seemed a very good crowd, I missed kick off, despite being at Sadlers Farm at 6.40pm due to the appalling traffic getting onto the island.

Constantly big queues at the bar meant I gave up twice trying to get a pint. Must have been a good earner for Canvey.

Never been to Park Lane before and it's a cracking ground. Ship watching made up for the usual pre-season dirge on the pitch.

First half better than second. Canvey looked good after the break and could have had a goal or two. We missed three or four good chances in the first half.

Wes stood out for me, the goal was excellent.

Not the best game but it is pre season, and just nice to watch a game and not worry about financial stuff for a couple of hours.

Oh and a little detour to Benfleet Road after the game to lean on the horn. The car in front must have wondered what the hell was going on!

Cardwell seemed to be holding his thigh before he went off - hopefully just a niggle but I think we will need to wrap him in cotton wool until the oldham game. Wes had a good game in midfield but we didn’t carry much threat upfront. Wood played alongside Cards and put in a good shift but was obviously playing out of position. Powell and bridge were on the sidelines and hopefully they will be there to bolster our ranks for when the season kicks off. Good turn out from the Southend faithful and Canvey probably made a nice profit out of this friendly

I can quite safely say that the traffic getting on to the Island was even more awful than usual, missed kick off as well. Predictably, nowhere to park at Park Lane either, was quite amusing watching the huge numbers of Southend fans scrambling to park and get some cash to get in. Lucky for me, my parents live round the corner, so parked there instead!

Its a nice little ground, much improved over the last few years. When you think they were playing at our level a few years ago, and they had their own 'bad owner' situation. We need to hope things get sorted soon, or we will be playing at our local clubs in the league regularly!

Welcome to the trials and tribulations of living in Benfleet and having to travel to Canvey at peak times! With Vicarage Hill closed and temporary traffic lights in several places on the High Road as well as Kiln Road and Kents Hill Road, last night the traffic was queued up everywhere. What should have been a 15 minute journey for us was closer to three times that and I know people were still coming in at half time.

Enjoyable first half, we'd normally look to cruise ahead in the 2nd half but that didn't happen due to the changes and bringing in less experienced players. Some good prospects among them.

Dan Mooney was there last night, he walked off with Callum after the match so I am hoping that the situation there will change as I do think he can offer a lot when fully fit which we rarely saw last season. No Lomas though.

Good to chat with some of the non playing staff and hear the relief in their voices at finally receiving their owed wages, and good to chat to lots of old friends as well.

Always enjoy our visit to Canvey, they never seem to be quite ready for us though with their food and drink!

Glad to have set out early ! Crawling down Essex Way, wondered whether Vicarage Road was closed because of armed attacks on someone’s house !
Low-key performance understandably—ref booked our youngster for no obvious reason but no card for a horrific foul on Gus.
Fonguck and Miley were running the show but without our 2 remaining goal sources, Bridge and Powell , we weren’t that threatening.

Another enjoyable run out, traffic aside. Got to Bishops Stortford from Benfleet quicker than yesterday. First visit, nice set up, managed to get there early enough still to get a beer before the large queues. Another lower league bar that is so much tidier than ours.
Game was a typical pre season affair, we were not as slick as Saturday. This was partly due to a couple more absentees and their keeper first half, with some decent stops including one point blank. Canvey also looked more solid than their league winners on Saturday.
Star man would have been their keeper, first half certainly. But Gus nicked it with his late goal and usual dependable, energetic all round performance. Thought Wes had another good game, always finding space, wanting the ball and driving us forward. Three wins out of three, none too shabby in the circumstances, well done Kev & co, UTB
